After all of 5 seconds "chewing over" things, I'll make a few points:

    1) Your facts are wrong. Using the website you've quoted we're actually 6th in the death rate per million on 443.

    2) Of the 5 above us, there are 3 anomalies. Belgium who have recorded "probable" Covid deaths in their stats and included all care home deaths from the start, so have overstated them according to most scientists. San Marino and Andorra who have less than 50 cases each but as their populations are much smaller than 1million, the numbers have been increased.

    3) Nobody at all is "loving" that we have the highest death rate in Europe. We don't want our families and loved ones to die. Neither do the media. To suggest otherwise is incredibly disingenuous.

The UK death toll passes 30,000 and according to reports on the BBC website the "stay at home" message is being scrapped with easing of lockdown measures starting from Monday

I don't think the media could've praised them any more than they have ...

... everyone really knows that any blame is put on those people making poor decisions, not those clearing up their mess.

Some 400,000 surgical gowns ordered from Turkey have not been given to NHS workers because they do not meet British safety standards, the government has confirmed.

The shipment of personal protective equipment was flown to the UK by the RAF last month, but is now stuck in a government warehouse.

It is not clear if the government will seek a refund from the suppliers.

The Department of Health said it was working "night and day to source PPE".

During the past few months as the UK has tackled the coronavirus pandemic, healthcare workers including doctors and nurses have complained of a lack of adequate kit such as gowns, masks and gloves.

PPE is essential for protecting front-line workers exposed to Covid-19, and without it workers are concerned they could catch or spread the virus.

Amid a row over the procurement of PPE in April, the government announced it had managed to source a large supply from Turkey.

After several delays, the RAF was deployed to fly it back to RAF Brize Norton on 22nd April, but now the government has confirmed that all 400,000 surgical gowns that were delivered were unusable because they did not meet the required criteria.

The news was first reported by the Daily Telegraph.
In a statement, the Department of Health and Social Care said there were shortages of PPE around the world, not just in the UK.

"We are working night and day to source PPE internationally and domestically and brought together the NHS, industry and the armed forces to create a comprehensive PPE distribution network to deliver critical supplies to the frontline," a spokesperson said.

"All deliveries of PPE are checked to ensure that the equipment meets the safety and quality standards our frontline staff need. If equipment does not meet our specifications or pass our quality assurance processes it is not distributed to the front line."

That's worrying then really as it's deliberate disinformation. If people still want to back the government with all the information in front of them then that's fine. Being lied too is a different matter.

No problem mate, as long as Mr Hancock reaches his targets ...

... this is what you get for putting a hardline economist is charge of the NHS.

Providing costs are kept low, targets met and figures shuffled its all fine.

We may as well assume that lockdown is over. We’ve said before that an announcement of what may happen in a few days is taken as gospel immediately by those who want to interpret to their own agenda. There’s now no problem answering to the police if they stop your car , there’s a list of excuses you can give . Apart from the original 4 , you can now pretend you’re travelling short distance for a walk , or going to a garden centre , or B&Q , KFC ( decided to open drive throughs - govt permission(?) no doubt McDonald’s will follow ) Now reporting that Boris ‘s Sunday announcement may allow picnics , unlimited excercise and days out . ( even the itv weather girl , because of good weather said “ I can smell the barbecues” ).
Couple of days ago I read that a survey said 80% wanted lockdown to continue. The easing being considered seems to be rewarding those who have flaunted the rules all along , whilst those who have behaved will continue to compromise because of the danger posed by the ones who will now assume “ normality “ .
Boils my piss that strictly speaking I shouldn’t go and buy paint in order to utilise my time inside ( doing the right thing ) decorating - but they will let others out for KFC junk .

Does anyone else suspect that this lockdown easing is suspiciously calculated.

It's slightly ambiguous as @gelders pie suggested, police powers eroded, etc.

I think the plan is actually, 'put the word out and some people will take advantage so we can blame them if there's a 2nd wave of the virus ... it's because the public couldn't be trusted. If it goes well we'll look good and can take the credit'.

There's already a lot more traffic on the road here in the south east but most people are playing by the rules. The problem is that most people breaking the rules have no regard for society or law enforcement anyway as they already know best.
I had a BBQ in the garden - only our household invited <cheers>
Surely you could have bought some paint online - they are still delivering. :emoticon-0138-think
Whatever Boris announces on Sunday it looks like it's all going to hit the fan anyway...

The Bank of England has warned that the coronavirus pandemic will push the UK economy towards its deepest recession on record.
It said the economy was on course to shrink 14% this year, based on the lockdown being relaxed in June.
Scenarios drawn up by the Bank to illustrate the economic impact said Covid-19 was "dramatically reducing jobs and incomes in the UK".
The Bank's analysis was based on social distancing measures being gradually phased out between June and September.
Its scenario showed the UK economy plunging into its first recession in more than a decade. The economy shrinks by 3% in the first quarter of 2020, followed by an unprecedented 25% decline in the three months to June.
UK facing deepest downturn since 1706

Why are the UK expecting a 14% recession but the EU are only expecting a 7.5% recession?

Actually I've got no intention of decorating, it was just an example of the ambiguity and mess of the rules that has arisen with what you can and cant do. B&Q is open, but the govts own website still says that buying for repairs is ok, but paint and brushes for decorating is not essential. ( but going to garden centres for decorative flowers apparently is ?)

    Is that the only possibility?

They've already suggested it will be the worst recession in their history so it's not like they're hiding a bad situation much.

What's the upside of them lying about the number?

I'm no economist but it's looks like the world is heading for a period of recession and possibly a global depression, closed borders, job losses and mass unemployment.
The EU have a number of countries who's economies are heavily dependant on travel and tourism for their GDP.
UK companies are already laying people off for the New Normal.
