RIP David Greenfield. Saw them at Brid Spa circa 88 or thereabouts. Hugh Cornwell Jet Black Jean-Jaques Dave
First saw them February 1977 at Newcastle Poly. And it was free. I was hobbling around on crutches having torn the ligaments in my ankle a couple of weeks earlier. A very kind steward said me and my mates could use the lift to get up to the upstairs bar where the gig was taking place. The lift exit was by the stage, so we didn't need to pass the door where they were taking money. Poly students. Not the sharpest tools in the shed. I spent the evening sitting on the corner of the stage to take the weight off the ankle, even did some air guitar with one of the crutches. The band signed my cast. This was just after London Lady / Get a Grip had been released. A couple of months later they came back to Newcastle and plaued a sold-out City Hall. Not quite the same atmosphere but still good. Seen them many times since.
