It was broadcast on SKY News. The reason it became a major news story, was because relatives could not be present for the signing of the forms.

The "independent" SAGE meetings were being run by Dominic Cummings, who we already know is a eugenicist.

Yup...people only need to go online to see the reports into what I say occured, it's not difficult to find the blanket use of end of life, do not resuscitate forms. Not the sort of blanket you would normally associate to giving our old folk.

We do quite a lot of plumbing work for a large sheltered housing association.
After about a week of lockdown we started getting some really stupid cat 1 jobs (basically loose toilet seat, 1 radiator not working etc)
I emailed Sanctu.....the housing association asking if we could hold off on these jobs until it’s safe for everyone involved to carry out the works.
‘Should you not wish to carry out the works as detailed, and to the timescales previously agreed, we are within our rights to cancel your framework with immediate effect and seek alternative providers.’
I imagine this has happened across the country. That’s a lot of vulnerable people coming into contact with with others for absolutely no legitimate reason.
Nothing really to do with what’s been discussed now. Just entering up some invoices and it reminded me.
120 quid for a white bog seat!

I've certainly never perceived myself as an expert, I give a personal opinion, nothing more, nothing less, don't forget I'm the open one, to being a Tory voter in all this, so I certainly could never be accused of having a bias agenda.

As for PPE, I don't think those words have ever been typed by me, in regards to care homes. My main moan has been about the end of life forms, and what I saw as sacrificing our elderly. How should we have handled it, I don't know, I'm not a medic or a scientist, but I'm damn sure it could have been handled better than it was. Maybe we need to look to Germany and South Korea for the answers.

Wasn't aimed at you specifically, I just quoted that sentence as a discussion point.

Building a hospital in about half an hour was a reasonable sign.

... the main route into the care homes for the virus is through those mixing with the general population ... adequate PPE would almost certainly have helped carers that were unknowingly already infected passing it on to residents ... but the real crime was in not testing all carers immediately on lockdown ...

It would have been impossible to test all carers upon lockdown. There’s about 1.5million people working in adult social care in the UK. Don’t think that figure includes other non-directly employed staff who provide services to the homes either.

That’s more people than the total number of tests we’ve carried out as a country. There’s absolutely no chance we could have done it. The only difference in terms of strategy we could have made (ignoring for a minute speed of ramping up tests) would have been to prioritise people who work in care homes over people working in the NHS or those actually sick with the virus. Which I doubt is a decision that would have gone down well.

Not really no. What was happening was COVID positive residents were being returned to care homes from hospitals. The care homes weren’t required via PHE to wear the highest level PPE that would be used in hospital when dealing with COVID patients and staff have been dealing with infected and non infected residents, therefore the virus has gone through homes like wildfire, some homes losing 25+ residents.
