Eh? So you’re saying the UK has more recorded deaths than anyone else in Europe, because the Italians can’t count? And only an epidemiologist can dispute that argument?

That’s handy for the bunch of palpably inept woodentops currently forming our government. They’re off the hook then I suppose.

That’s not what I said at all is it? We could end up looking even worse when we can study the final outcome. Your assumptions are precisely what I was talking about though, jumping to conclusions like you’re an expert.

The same folk RAGING that we didn’t go out and procure 700 million ventilators a few weeks ago are now focussed on the population figures, comparing data that would never, ever be used in any sort of empirical study, for political point scoring. Nobody can have a sensible conversation on here, it turns into politics, conspiracies or snidey clique high-fives.

On the flip side though if our data was relatively positive and we had few excess deaths compared to Germany I dread to think what sort of war rhetoric we’d be seeing.

It’s a fair evaluative point that the data isn’t robust and 100% consistent but it doesn’t write off the main point entirely. It’s also fair that the most important stat is the excess deaths which should mitigate for inconsistency and takes into account the full social effect of the virus. On that metric we are horrific.

If the numbers were low then people would obviously be praising the strategy put in place by the experts (not Boris) I agree, but it wouldn’t be tribal, I’d like to think all shades of the political spectrum would be in agreement.

The excess deaths are again, not comparative to other countries, the variables are vast and every country has a unique DNA.

Data can always be manipulated, but we should be looking at what specific strains we’ve dealt with, what the demographic looked like in every hotspot, when the first hospital admission was in that area and when the lock down come into place in that area and pivot that data in a schedule with population density, average use of public services (like the tube), weather conditions (were most people forced indoors) etc. It’s all the tip of the iceberg.

I get called a Boris ****er for wanting to use real empirical data instead of assumptions though.

The coronavirus testing seems to be a strange one. Apparently the capacity is supposedly there for 100K a day testing but only about 70k are being sent out or carried out in centres and hospitals. And these aren't actually tests completed OR even the number of people having tests as it includes multiple testing for the same individual.

Now when the government is pressured on this, they're saying the capacity is there but it's not being taken up. Currently, only essential workers exhibiting symptoms and over 65's exhibiting symptoms can apply for a test. So it makes sense then to open it up to more people whilst prioritising applications for those two groups if they get inundated. A greater priority should be given to the number of people tested rather than just the number of tests or the capacity.

The reason for this is that many scientific analysts and health experts and dare I say Bill Gates who's pushed for greater testing have said testing isn't just about the individual being tested or the resulting healthcare needed, BUT also about the prioritisation in gathering a much broader, accurate picture of where and how the virus is spreading. This includes the areas and the demographics. Which in itself would be part of any intelligent strategy towards lifting the lockdown in stages.

Have you had an MRI scan?
I got fobbed off for two years. Finally had an MRI done. Turns out I had two slipped discs. Had a discectomy done and it’s miles better.

Some people would. I expect far more would turn it into a massive Boris ****athon / “look how much better we did than France/Germany/Italy (delete as applicable).

Those are all valid factors that can work in our favour or not. Still think it’s perfectly fine and legitimate to compare top line trends especially with countries nearest to us.

My main concern today is the people in my business who don’t really do data have seen we had phenomenal market share over Easter and are frothing at the prospect of upping our forecasts for the rest of the year and Q1 next year. The main reason isn’t that our products are suddenly great (they aren’t) but our main competitor had huge supply issues exacerbated by Corona that we were a bit lucky to avoid and our pricier, higher quality competitors get less popular when everyone is skint and focusing on stocking up loo roll. That’s proper misuse of data.

Looking back that wasn’t very interesting but it’s there now so cba deleting.

Maybe there would be a Boris ****athon (I doubt there would be much of one on here given they’d just get banned for talking) but as we are dealing with facts then let’s look at what people are actually doing. Fantasising over U.K. vs Italy figures... after predicting world doom cos we couldn’t buy thousands of extra ventilators in an EU buying agreement... after predicting Armageddon for the last 3-4 years.

Did we even get to the point where doctors were choosing who to treat and who to send home based on who’s most likely to survive? Aka the Piers Morgan Theory.

My issue is that some people will find a lifeline anywhere as long as they have a stick to beat the government with, whilst ignoring a “Plethora of variables”.

K den I’m out, have a good day Winds.

I'll let you decide I'm undecided but I guess you're entrenched in one or the other views ...... I will point you in the direction of Jim Jeffries and his joke on vaccination.

“Plethora of variables” aside, I think we have enough evidence to scientifically conclude that Boris is in fact a ****, leading a government of mostly clueless sycophantic ****s.

Can’t really see how stating such an obvious truth can cause offence, but of course it will.
