There will come a point where infection rates are so low, due to people having had the virus, recovering and developing anti-bodies where the risk of mass infections falls to a point where it's deemed safe to resume some degree of 'normality'. How long that will take is anybody's guess though.

Along with the search for a vaccine, there are some promising results coming from the use of anti-viral drugs. It may be that rather than a vaccine, a combination of anti viral drugs are used as a treatment in the first instance.

Either way, I simply do not see this season getting concluded before July 31st.

That's also your (our) hope. At present, there is no evidence that people who have had it once are immune, or that it won't mutate.

Even behind closed doors it still presents a risk to players though. And many are already voicing concerns about a 'return'

They could always settle it with a round of Fifa on the playstation I suppose ....

Everyone is concerned for the health of themselves and their families/friends. At least PL footballers can afford to walk away from their job and never have to work again. No one is putting a gun to their heads.

There isn't any evidence that people are immune once recovered, but the WHO said that recent tests showing that people could be reinfected were false positives. But yes, no evidence yet exists that you can't be reinfected and of course the virus could mutate.

Players have already been expressing their worries about playing again too soon and becoming infected, bringing up the danger of long term respiratory damage, which is a career ender.

The fact they might already be wealthy won’t affect the mindset of a football assessing the potential risk to their own career. If the players are concerned about coming back too soon, then it simply won’t happen, and there’s enough noises already that some of them are.

    The 19/20 season is finished.

The Premier League can go stuff itself up astro's arse, there is no way I will be watching any behind closed door games.

Call it off, and bring the lawyers on, because whatever is decided, there is going to be a shyster somewhere waiting to make money out of it.

Italy's sports minister can see this season being stopped all over Europe.

Last week, Italy's sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora warned: "I see an increasingly narrow path for the resumption of the Serie A."

He added: "These decisions (in France and in the Netherlands) could push Italy to follow this line, which would become a European line"

Contracted the virus while shopping and is now healthy to go home.

If Premier League footballers want to abstain from shopping then fair enough.

Up and down votes is absolutely trivial stuff.

I'm hoping for something more ambitious, like streamers voting on who to sub on.

Or something like people can pledge extra donations depending on the result/scoreline/clean sheet.

I hope they are going to add another option to allow @astro to accuse the ref of being biased.

I think Italy have more reason than most not to continue with the season, especially as it was stated at the beginning of the virus, that it was a football match, I believe in Milan (not 100% certain) that was part to blame for spreading the virus in Lombardy. The English football league only got cancelled within something like 24 hours of the matches, and that was not a government decision either, which is shocking in itself.
