We've lost 2 games across two seasons. No more needs to be said about this superb team. Greatest achievement ever. Rivals just can't handle it
Yeah, but it's our form, according to the trolls. Lost one game in the last six Prem matches: our only mathematical rival, City, have only won three of their last six. But momentum, like...
Mate, if I got to the stage of hate that these people are at, I'd bin football off. It's a huge source of enjoyment for me. I love the club, the players, the manager, the fans, everything about it. The real game is a joy, it uplifts your spirit and makes you forget your worries for a couple of hours while it's being played, those on social media platforms, sadly I include parts of this one in that, are building up such a head of toxic steam that if an alien came and this was the only view of football they had, they wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.
Following the PL meeting - there remains a strong desire to conclude the season with talks about potential restart ongoing. What happened in France duly noted with PL determined to strike a resolution which suits all clubs.
One of the worries about players back in training and then testing positive has come to pass. 3 players from FC Köln tested positive for the virus. They were sent home to quarantine for 14 days and in consultation with medical experts, the rest of the team are to carry on training. The health authorities have said that 'measures being taken means that players can practice their profession with the best possible protection against infection'. 'Regular tests have proven that we can react with individual solutions'. I said that the German football strategy would be the test case. It remains to be seen how this approach works out.
If City are banned from next season's CL, do we only forward three teams into the competition? I ask because Diego, Treble and others seem very, very concerned now that as null and void is effectively null and voided, that teams who haven't 'won' their trophy or position through a full season, or haven't gained their reward through their own efforts, are not entitled to benefit from them. So, will it be three teams, or will United go into the CL with an asterisk against them?
10 positive tests from 1724 taken in Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2. Training carries on. Three of the staff/players who tested positive are asymptomatic which is good news and shows that the testing is working. This really will be the experiment that is followed if it proves successful.
difference is though Germany - 7000 deaths UK - 28500 Personally hold little hope of football resuming any time soon .
Spain and Italy both back in training. It will return, behind closed doors. If it doesn't there won't be any clubs left to worry about a return at all.
there will be a swathe of clubs who will go to the wall in the lower league as that seems inevitable due to the period before crowds will be allowed into grounds .
One suggestion I've seen is that the lower leagues look at live streaming the games and charge for viewing. Fans would surely see this as a good way of watching their team in the short term until the future looks more certain, albeit far inferior than being there. The clubs would still be making money.
can't see it apart from as a really short term thing . Would you pay to watch us play for half a season in front of no fans ?
I wasn't talking about PL. They will have Sky and BT still. I meant clubs down the leagues whose only income is from gate receipts. If it meant survival or go bust what would you choose?
How does behind closed doors football somehow save the lower leagues, when the vast majority of their revenue comes from matchday revenue?
Most fans i know further down the ladder wouldn't bother as they go almost as much for the social side as the game . I know Sky / BT have the contract but would you pay for a stream of games in front of no fans ?
Again it comes down to, in the short term if that was all you had then yes. Football with fans is a long way off unless a vaccine is made sooner than we are expecting. If football as an industry is to survive then it will have to get creative. The richer clubs will last a bit longer but the lower leagues will disappear altogether. If I was a fan of a lower league club faced with the choice of my club disappearing altogether or paying to watch a live stream for * insert an unknown time here* to get the club through until fans are allowed back, I would choose to give my club the money and watch a live stream so they are at least being compensated for losses in gate receipts until the return of fans to games.
Only the maths just doesn’t work. An average league 2 club charges around £23 a ticket and has about 4,000 matchgoers. Then there’s the food and drink sold, plus the meals and corporate seats. Solids point about the social element being more important at that level is right imo, plus families will go together, father and sons etc. So if you’re selling a streamed game how many are going to actually buy it? A quarter of the average gate? At an average of what £10 per household? Minus the cost of TV quality cameramen, production and broadcast. It’s simply not a viable alternative for that level. They’ll be forced to go part time, and will only survive then with the help of handouts.
