And given they are nearest thing to being an amateur club in championship, they’re most likely to survive with virtually no running costs like players wages, ground maintenance etc
Spot on Eire, they would also save on outside contractors because they could call on their team of chippys, sparks, plumbers etc etc
OK, my two pence worth on finishing the season now. Null and void. You cannot null and void a season after 75%of games have been played. If only 9 games had been played then yes but with only 9 games left it must be finished. Clubs are financially bound to this season, not next. Fans are emotionally bound to this season, not next. Promotion & relegation. If the season has to be stopped now then current standings are what should count with normal promotion and relegation. "But that's not fair. " Clubs/ fans who argue that by not playing the remaining 9 games, sorry but tough. The argument that they will suddenly come good for 9 games and do what they couldn't in 36 games is rubbish. If 50% of games had been played then I think they would have a worthy argument but at this point I think it is a fair showing of where they should be in the league. "But leeds always bottle it. Could be used for the numerous perennial top ten of the championship who have hovered around the play offs for longer than we've been in this league. Relegation from premier league. In February I had a conversation with a Norwich fan & villa fan I work with. They were both 90% certain they were going down and were resigned to it. I'm sure a lot of Bournemouth and West Ham fans felt the same. Now they are both 90% certain that if the last 9 games were played they would stay up. This feeling not based on footballing reasons but on the feeling of injustice if not given the chance. Sorry but if you haven't been good enough so far then too bad. Play offs. At this moment the pl and fl think they could get all games played. I think this is unrealistic and unsafe just due to the large logistical issues involved to ensure safety. However I believe the play offs could be played in the conditions talked about. A much smaller scale of their plans. Making a decision. Someone needs to make the decision now. End it as is as I've described and just say tough due to the exceptional circumstances the world is facing. If clubs then want to fight it legally then hopefully courts and judges would agree. Also the clubs that were to fight it legally would go straight on my c**t list. All their talk of human life and safety would be shown to be a joke.
If government kicks the idea of playing football further down the track this week then it’s time to make a decision one way or other. That’ll give the leagues about six months till next season starts. Lots of time for the lawyers to make their killing from the numerous legal challenges
Afternoon all... They need to have a plan A and B option, they need to tell all the teams plan B is to end the season on a points per game basis and that there will be relegation. Plan A it so re-start and play at neutral grounds and then ask them to vote. What is the point of playing behind closed doors at neutral grounds with no relegation. The bottom half of the PL will put out second string players and why would they even try and win or compete
Worse case scenario, what about top of Championship (us) plays a one off game against Norwich (bottom of Prem)?
Hypothetical scenario, but very possible. Lots of talk doing the rounds that the whole of next season will be behind closed doors. What if the TV deals are scrapped or severely reduced as a result?, Would you still want to go up knowing that you would be getting zero income, but would have to spend a fortune to compete with established prem teams
Fake news TC. A season behind closed doors would mean bigger TV deals due to far bigger TV audiences with more games shown live. The Prem clubs won't vote for anything that stops the TV money coming in.
Not really mate. If it remains behind closed doors it will be because social distancing is still in place - which also means 100s of thousands of pubs and bars around the globe will not be renewing their subscriptions for the year - would have an absolutely massive impact!!
