This is the worst crisis we've faced as a nation since WWII dontcha know. We''ll look back on these dark days with pride knowing we all did our bit. We'll tell our grandkids how we sacrificed to save their lives from the invisible tyranny. We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when...
Could be argued that the figures look like that due to lockdown ... However , the UK approach sucks baws. New Zealand showed how it should have been done ...
I prefer the Swedish approach which is essentially "**** em if they're gonna die, our economy is going to emerge from this as THE global super power!"
You're comparing apples to oranges. NZ is the same size as GB yet has the same population as half of London. There is no evidence that lockdown saves lives. There's plenty of evidence that economic carnage costs hundreds of thousands of lives. The ONS attributed 250k-500k deaths due to falling living standards after the 2008 financial crash. We have lost one third of our economy due to lockdown and the economic ramifications will linger for years if not decades. #endlockdown
Fair point ...but at the very least our airports should have closed a lot sooner than they did . NZ did it almost immediately. Roughly same population as Scotland . Might need to compare rates NZ v Scotland I’m not going to pretend I know a lot about it I.e what would be the best strategy , lockdown or not etc but I agree the economics of the whole situation is ****ed . I don’t see how companies in your industry for example couldnt continue ... maybe with restricted numbers on site etc but to shut down all industries seems ****ed .
They're achieving herd immunity and their economy isn't taking a tanking. What the lockdowners are doing is looking short term and ignoring the unintended consequences. Millions of furloughed workers will be coming out of lockdown to NO JOB as there position has ceased to be via company liquidation or no longer required. Aldo and his like are beating fk out of their wives on a scale not seen since the suffragette movement. Childline inundated with calls as the Mindy's of the world stretch holes on a scale not seen since Savile visited CBC. Non covid deaths spiking as folk don't go to docs or A&E for fear of overwhelming the coping NHS. Then lockdown ends, then there's another surge in deaths of elderly with underlying health conditions and we shut down the economy again. Life is about living, seeing friends and family, socialising, going out for meals, going on holidays, this lockdown insanity is just that. Insanity. Mental how it seems to be just attacking developed countries too!
