When i was a lad my old man was a coalman. So not surprising he hated waste as he worked a hard filthy job to put food on our table .

Both mine ended up working to make ends meet. 15% mortgage rates and all that. My mum was a sewing machinist. Proper Corrie Street type stuff. It took its toll on her. After a few years her hands , legs and feet would pain from the repetitive strain and continued for years after she retired. Awful for her eyesight as well. I remember she used to have to ask which way round the good side of the cloth was. After a day of sitting at the machine she would come home and cook. My dad was a warehouse manager for a record distribution company. Both same as yours made us appreciate food put on the table. But then in them days having chicken was a weekend treat... if we were lucky.

Yeah my parents were working class immigrants so their was no silver spoon or anything of the like...I still think feeding your kid the same egg 2 days later is cruel in this day and age. I know how much half a dozen eggs cost

This whole scrambled eggs thing has really got to you hasn't it Spurlock <laugh>

Agree though, eggs of all things is the one thing you don't want to be eating days later after sticking it in the fridge lol

just stumbled on the last 2 pages (I cba to read back and i've never partaken in spurlies old ramadan threads) but the food thing is interesting. I used to be a fussy eater when i was younger (what a little ****) but we never wasted any food (grew up with 4 other siblings) and that is all down to my parents upbringing. Obviously growing up in HK to a family of 7, my mum used to tell us stories about how after primary school, the family couldn't afford secondary school for her and by day she would be selling the familys vegetables by day and have cook and look after her younger siblings in the evening (she was the middle child). There wasn't any meat unless it was special occasions and back then people had very little to eat.

Kind of brings it all home and although i've relaxed a bit in terms of stuffing myself full so i feel unwell, i try not to waste any food (keep it leftover or doggy bag it).

    hangry hangry **** you all.

Obviously i've been mistaken. Maybe i will offer you the courtesy of starting from the beginning (i've also not bothered with the dinner thread either)

oh i've seen it when it was good (my mums old home 20 years ago). The "village" had open sewers, basically gutters along the house with loads of houses packed tightly together. The inside was all concrete, no carpets or tiles. I remember i was like 6 and some ants crawled into my bowl of soup, my mum just put her finger in my soup, took it out and said there ya go carry on.

No more open sewers and they've rebuilt it again for the 2nd time (its really nice now) but there are still quite a lot of cockroaches that come out at night near the village

I'd hate to have seen what the living conditions were like 40 years ago

You do make me laugh buddy.

I did specifically say I don't keep food for the next day than talked about how my mother use to. I do indeed serve them food later in the same day if they've not eaten it earlier, never anything i wouldn't wolf down myself but in all honesty that doesn't preclude much!

My brain is trying to understand this...29 hours per day?

Is there even a planet in our solar system that has that many hours in a day <whistle>

    So they do <ok>

Oddly I was thinking planets further out, but it's the opposite, because those further out rotate quicker.

Spurly ... serious question ... have you considered playing table tennis to distract you when you are feeling really, really hungry?

You know... Ramadan a ping pong ...

Alright, alright, I'm leaving ffs <laugh>

That makes me cringe, seems harsh. Maybe because I'm a grandad now and have gone soft in the head.
