Here's an idea, which would help pubs, musicians, etc. To start with open pubs with beer gardens and have the bar service on an App like they do at Wetherspoon's. Limit the App to locals, checked by utility bill or whatever, and keep the numbers acceptable. No one is allowed in the bar, only the toilets. See how it goes and extend it if things go well. This is 'top of my head stuff' so I'm sure it could be refined.
Boils my piss with these daily death tolls considering they arentfrom 24hrs in some cases it takes weeks for a death to be registered
Just seen Nigel Farage on youtube he says the actual testing figure was 73k the others were postal tests that weren't even back yet
More mixed messages Matt Hancock took to social media to claim that "the clinically vulnerable, who are advised to stay in lockdown for 12 weeks, emphatically DO NOT include all over 70s". The statement appears to contradict government advice that over-70s should minimise contact with the outside world, as well as Mr Hancock's own prior statements. The government's own webpage, last updated 28th April, says that "clinically vulnerable people include anyone aged 70 or over, as well as those under 70 with an underlying health condition". In March Mr Hancock said that over-70s would be asked to "shield" themselves by self-isolating for several months, because of increased vulnerability to Covid-19 infection. Sunday Times, he said: "We have strongly advised all over 70s to follow social distancing measures." data-reactid="22" style="margin-bottom: 1em;">But in a string of tweets responding to an article published in the Sunday Times, he said: "We have strongly advised all over 70s to follow social distancing measures. "However, there is no 'blanket ban', and the suggestion that the clinically vulnerable include 'people aged 70 or older regardless of medical conditions' is wrong and deeply misleading." The confusion appears to have been partly fuelled by the fact the government has two separate but similarly named categories, each asked to follow different requirements: "clinically vulnerable" and "clinically extremely vulnerable". Mr Hancock appears to be wrong to say that over-70s are not automatically in the "clinically vulnerable" group – they are listed as such on the government's website on a webpage updated on 1st May. These people are being advised to "take particular care to minimise contact with others outside of your household" and follow the general lockdown guidelines more stringently than others. Other than the elderly, this group also includes people with underlying health conditions like asthma, COPD, emphysema, heart disease, kidney disease, and diabetes. It also includes pregnant women and those who are significantly overweight, or have a weakened immune system. However, over-70s are not automatically in the additional "clinically extremely vulnerable" category. This second group includes organ transplant recipients, people with specific cancers, severe respiratory conditions, rare diseases, those on immune suppression therapy, and some pregnant women with heart complications. This even stricter group is being asked to follow what the government officially refers to as "shielding", which requires people not to leave their home at all for the coming months and to register for help. The Independent has contacted the Department of Health for comments about this story. The Health Secretary was criticised last week for "massaging" figures about how many people had been tested for Covid-19 to meet an artificial target that he had set himself.
You know the Coronvirus epidemic is serious when the Archers, the worlds longest running 'drama', is reduced broadcasting old repeats. What's happening to the TV soaps?
You would of thought the Archers could be produced with the characters remote . As you say , must be very serious times
Nice to see the BBC leaking documents regarding lifting restrictions, even said Boris will address the nation on Sunday evening. Is it just me or would they have been better to not have it running as the front page headline, what with a bank holiday weekend coming and a few people starting to already flout the rules?
@Chunksafc This sort of thing is just asking for it. The virus is barely under control. It's almost a semi-lockdown. The police aren't / can't enforce it and the government are giving out mixed messages. In Spain, people weren't allowed out at all. In France, didn't you need to carry a form that said you had permission to be out?
Just a technicality but the BBC have published it, not leaked it. The leak has come from within the government. I do agree to a point that it's a bit irresponsible but that's because I have a healthy contempt for the general public and their intelligence. Personally, transparency and openness is exactly what I want. There's also a part of me that wonders if the leaks are deliberate, almost to test the public feeling. If it gets a huge backlash, the government just claim it was one of 7 different proposals and nothing more.
My wife and I are both 67 and take care of our grandchildren aged 6 and 4 years. The idea of them going back to school in June for a few weeks in june before the summer holidays is bonkers. All the staying at home and staying safe we have done is to be thrown away? What are William and Kate going to do with their children I wonder?
the grandparent grandchildren situation is another point of why it should be lockdown for everyone until it’s sorted . They talk about grandparents looking after the grandchildren, family get togethers for groups if 10 ,? but say older people have to stay in to stay safe - but then say send the kids into the big wide world .
The Spain / France type of lockdown will come our way . Too many British citizens are just too thick and arrogant to go the right and sensible way . The small kitchen fire in the office block has gradually raged and grown to now envelop the whole block and threaten adjoining buildings. The fire brigade arrive and after a while their efforts hold back its potential spread and growth - although it’s still burning . Do the people go back inside because things aren’t now getting worse . Some of our idiots you would wonder
There are still people who think it is a hoax . They go out and don't get it , probably a carrier , fools
