Good Morning. It's Monday 4th May, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Relegation threatened clubs dig their heels in Following a meeting on Friday evening with all twenty Premier League clubs, an agreement to play the remaining 92 fixtures at neutral grounds has been agreed to, but only on the basis that relegation is scrapped! The report states: "Clubs near the bottom of the table feel it is unfair to play in such different conditions when at risk of relegation." Brighton chief executive Paul Barber was quoted as saying:: "“But at this critical point in the season, playing matches in neutral venues has the potential to have a material effect on the integrity of the competition,” “The disadvantages of us not playing in our home stadium and in familiar surroundings, even with fans very unlikely to be present at the Amex, are very obvious,” Outspoken West Ham Vice Chair Karen Brady added "Every club said it wants the season to restart,” “We all know it is going to take a lot of working together, good faith, careful thought and compromises if we have any chance of that happening.” “The only common theme from all the clubs is that any compromises have to be fair and uphold the integrity of the game,” “There are a lot of obstacles to overcome and no doubt many compromises to make.” please log in to view this image Where does this leave Leeds? In the wake of last Friday's meeting with the 20 Premier League clubs where clubs currently threatened by relegation would refuse to play their remaining games at neutral venues, former chief football writer of the Yorkshire Evening Post Phil Hay has delivered an update:- "Day by day it gets weirder and more desperate". "Leeds haven’t taken legal advice yet about a scenario where the Premier League pulls up the drawbridge but they’re quietly positioning themselves to lobby for promotion". Reading between the lines, it sounds very much like the Premier League going out of their way to protect their clubs whatever the outcry! Even if a majority share were to agree to complete the remaining fixtures, what would then happen if the bottom three refused outlining if was not a safe environment? please log in to view this image PL Club - Objections raised by clubs near the bottom were a deliberate act of sabotage It looks like the Premier League's desperate plan to try and please all of its members, all of the time is starting to derail!!! Last Friday's meeting saw Premier League clubs situated near the bottom of the table, trying to block 'Project Restart' citing it would be unfair to play games at neutral venues; bringing the resumption of the remainder of the season into doubt. According to The Mail, It seems some of the Big Six have lost patience, andare lobbying for guarantees that promotion and relegation will still be implemented, even if the season is curtailed. Not surprisingly the split over the merits of Project Restart is largely based on where clubs stand in the table. An executive at one club told the Daily Mail that the objections raised by clubs near the bottom were a deliberate act of sabotage. The Premier League will need 14 votes in favour for matches to resume. It is believed 13 clubs were in favour of Project Restart, six opposed and one was undecided. Morning All, Personally I think it ruins the integrity of the PL if crap teams are able to avoid relegation, that in any true sport persons eyes they deserve, by employing devious underhand tactics.
Morning all. Nothing’s changed. Seasons finished. We just need to wait and see if pl have relegation or allow two extra teams in pl next season. Financially a decision is needed immediately as clubs shortly due back for preseason training. Surely many must be in a perilous financial state and will need to start trading players as their only means of survival
You would have thought there would be some provision for this kind of scenario. With the amount of money around the Premier League I can't believe there's no small print somewhere for the event a season cannot be finished. At least then whatever the outcome clubs can't argue if it's been agreed before the season starts. Clubs agreeing to play if there's no relegation just shows that all the clubs taking the moral high ground about safety were only ever interested in their own survival.
Good Morning to Matt and co froma wet Bardsey I think its amazing Matt how you find new stories to tell each day I thought it was funny when Brady stated the we must hold the integrety of the game Cardiff all the match fixing etc its a joke I believe that 2 teams will be promoted and the rest will stay as it was giving a 22 team PL THTA way nobody can sue Hope everyone is well
So the Premier League clubs(well some) want no relegation if they are to agree to finishing the season at neutral venues. Well what's the point, they may as well just scrap the season altogether. But if they complete the season without relegation I presume that the title will be still handed out and European places granted. The whole thing stinks. Morning everyone.
I see Karen Brady having a laugh with her comments "We all know it is going to take a lot of working together, good faith, careful thought and compromises if we have any chance of that happening. The only common theme from all the clubs is that any compromises have to be fair and uphold the integrity of the game" Hypocritical bitch!
Leeds United have sold 21,600 season tickets plus 10,000 membership, which means we are financially sound for at least the next few months. Can't see much transfer activity even in the premiership during the summer months so Kalvin Phillips should still be at Leeds next season
If I believed in conspiracy theories(which I don't) I'd blame the scum supporting Chinese in creating the corona virus with the intent on derailing our season because we were closing in on returning to the top flight.
Morning all. The phrase sporting integrity is the one that makes me laugh with each new suggestion put forward. This latest idea by the relegation threatened teams of removing the threat of relegation is so laughable as to be be unbelievable. Are we really to believe that not one of the intelligent well off people running these clubs thought "yeah, this won't wash. "
I hope you're right 64. I know he is a man with integrity so he might give it another go, if we aren't promoted this year. The frustrating thing was that we were on a good run before this lockdown started.
In my opinion, if it's unfair to relegate teams then it's unfair to give the title and European places. It wouldn't be as controversial this year because of how far Liverpool are in front but surely you can't say one outcome is fair and the other isn't.
I do believe the Chinese deliberately started this horrible chaos for world supremacy I'll never eat in a Chinese restaurant again & intend not to buy any products 'Made in China'
Long before the apprentice, I remember her shacking up with a player from the club she was working for at the time, now I'm not sure if there were others involved, ie partners, but I think it was a big no no to have a relationship with the players. She certainly had no integrity then.
Given what we’d expected to be seeing next season, packed stadiums, playing supposed elite in pl, if we have to settle for championship football behind closed doors, it’ll take some getting used to would feel like 46 cardboard cup first round ties
They are just making it up as they go along. Even if we do resume playing it doesn't mean that we don't have another meltdown and miss the autos, but to be stopped from being able to finish the season would be criminal, especially with the financial rewards for reaching the Prem.
