Nah, I'm sure there's a rule against them. If not, I know someone who can make them up...

    Literally. <whistle>

MAY not MUST. Hence the reason they had the choice, and refused, and hence the reason UEFA altered that clause afterwards.

And the fact that the FA had quoted this clause the year before when discussing the Chelsea/Arsenal situation meant that UEFA didn't think they had to stipulate what was meant by it before the FA favoured Everton.

Maybe their view in this case had something to do with the rest of my post .....that you swerved.

Whatever it was, they were under no obligation to do so, hadn’t said they would, and then didn’t. The end.

Wondered when we'd get there... well ne excuses, and you were abysmally treated on that score (by our own government too, considering that they and not UEFA banned all English clubs as well as just Liverpool as UEFA were going to do). But being pedantic - the CL never started until 1992. But little argument you had as good a chance of winning the EC in '86, especially as we weren't in it.

Oh, and that second sentence - apart from another of your quasi legal guesses, any idea why the FA sought fit the year before to put through Chelsea or Arsenal even had they been 'Too ****e to actually qualify'? Could it not be that the FA had a flexible approach to thing regarding teams who were not Liverpool? Dare we say favouritism?

TBF, that is what the Brighton chairman suggested two Sundays ago when you quoted him. Partially. :emoticon-0125-mmm:

Is there a fair and reasonable case to be made for relegating West Ham?

But had said they would do so the year before for Arsenal or Chelsea. Hmm, you can see why UEFA might have been a bit caught out there, not knowing the FA's traditional enmity with Liverpool, like.

    It’d be an utter farce.

But it shows that there’s maybe not a 14 club majority in place for the behind closed doors conclusion.

Again you have to make it an attack on Liverpool as opposed to the far more likely imo, empathy with the position of Everton, and choosing to pass the problem to UEFA, as they knew fine well they’d ensure that the holders got a place.

Indeed so. There must be some explanation, and at least we can agree that the FA did (and still have) a bias against Liverpool (or a favouritism to others) whether that stems from perceived instances of actions of Liverpool fans or not. Just wish they'd be more open about it.

If it messes with Karen Brady's life, yes. But I know and work with several Hammers, all of them sound. And I do know from several reds who went to the FA final in Cardiff in 06 (I was ****ing working and had to give up a ticket to my nephew) that the W.Ham fans were great. Pity they can't just relegate their board.

Btw, the few Hammers I know seem to hate this stadium - and they worked do hard to get it!

14 club majority if there's no relegation - but, as has been said, that'll mean it won't really be a competition except for the Euro places. IF (big IF) this does finally happen - and the test will be how it goes in Germany, imo, as they're about three weeks ahead of us- it'll be interesting to see how City go about it. I would hope they'd play as if that ban will be overturned and consolidate second place, but why risk anything when, if they're played, they're still in two cup competitions, one of them being THEIR Holy Grail?

Here's the thing though - we could be facing two years of this (pessimistic), or at last another twelve months before crowds are allowed back into stadia for sporting events according to some medical scientist on SkySports over the weekend. So do we get used to it - or bin football till we can all come back? I honestly don't know, using my neutral head (which I do as much as anybody else on here ).

No matter what happens, everything will be different henceforth. I'm just looking forward to the day when I can walk the dog along a path and some silly bint coming the other way doesn't get an attack of the vapours and throws herself into a bush to get two metres away from me. Mind you, some did that before this virus..:emoticon-0138-think

Behind closed doors without relegation would make the majority of the remaining games utterly meaningless. Behind closed doors on neutral venues with relegation, I don’t think is right either, a view it seems is likely held by more than 6 PL sides.

As for what happens next season, I don’t know. Personally, top flight football without fans isn’t top flight football for me. Lower league football simply can’t survive without paying punters, so **** knows how they square that circle.

There’s also no ‘integrity’ if relegation is removed. Brighton at home suddenly becomes a much easier game than it otherwise would be.
