Yes it is all to easy to complain. We should be positive and encouraging they are all doing their best.
I rather liked this twitter post from Jeff Stelling yesterday: " It doesn't matter which way you voted - everyone can surely see that the government press conferences are nothing more than self serving propaganda."
Nobody, no country at first had the quick testing method. That was developed after the start of the virus. Then the worst countries got the first batches. As soon as it was readily available here targets were set. If test sets were posted as suggested you obviously don’t think they are going to be used. Why? Can you prove either way they were were not? So why are they lying? I agree we would have liked the government to have moved faster. I just feel you are going over the top at times criticising them.
Good use of alliteration Re: the clapping Remember there are many decent people who always have and will appreciate the NHS and are just trying to show their appreciation even if it is in a corny way. Mrs S is also a nurse and I know she and her colleagues generally appreciate the sentiment There’ll always be a cynical bastard trying to hijack something good. Ignore them The politics we get back to properly after lockdown. Can the government get away with telling us to “Protect the NHS” whilst underfunding and mis-managing it?
They are lying about the test numbers. This week they changed the way the testing is counted to include test kits sent out, rather than tests carried out. That means the numbers are effectively meaningless, because it will take an unknown length of time before the home-testing kits are returned and the tests carried out. As I said earlier, there was no need to lie, but their whole approach to this pandemic, like everything else, has been based on making themselves look good, rather than being honest with the British public about this terrible virus. A week or so ago Matt Hancock said that the tests were available for NHS staff but that they weren’t coming forward to be tested. What he didn’t say was that at that time the rules were that staff had to be symptomatic to warrant testing, so that was another completely unnecessary lie. Obviously there was no quick testing method before the virus actually existed, that would be absurd, but at least 2 countries got busy very quickly with the well-established Polymerase Chain Reaction technology, which can, from a small sample taken from a swab, multiply the amount of virus DNA to make it detectable. It’s no secret that Germany have had much more success than just about anywhere else with comparable population densities. Germany, with a similar population density to the UK, have tested over 30,000 people per million population compared to our 15,000 per million, and so far have had just 6,736 deaths, less than a quarter of ours.
Part of this is so that the public see the scientists right besides them so that they can be beastly and blame them when it is all over and they get taken to task for not doing a particularly good job.
It is a good job this virus struck when it did. Two months later and most of the NHS would have been sold to the Americans. Ooops. Sorry about that relapse I'll start again. The NHS are doing a wonderful job and we all need to show our appreciation. It is no good I can't keep up this goody, goody Mr nice guy. I am naturally argumentative, belligerent, difficult and cantankerous. The proper way to thank the NHS is for Johnson to declare that the NHS is safe. That it will not be dismantled or bits sold off, that nurses will be properly rewarded, that they will have the resources and investment they need. That targets for recruitment will be achieved and not fabricated like the bloody virus test numbers.
Perhaps you should go back to the other avatar and name and hopefully this weird shift in the order of things will right itself. At the moment everything is out of kilter and that is not good in these difficult times. I much prefer the cantankerous argumentative spectre that haunted this forum to this new saintly one.
Strewth mate, are you a full blown Aussie now? I am guessing that your being out of the country has stopped you from seeing the Panorama programme, aired on Monday. If you can get it online, then take a look. The government has downgraded the worst pandemic, in 100 years, from a High Consequence Infectious Disease, (HCID) to a lower rating. Why? Because the level of PPE we were holding was insufficient to cope with a HCID, and because the government has a legally binding duty to ensure that the level of PPE, and quality, is sufficient to meet ALL demands of a HCID. They downgraded the coronavirus to cover their own backsides, to try and avoid being sued, whilst hanging the NHS, and the country, out to dry. That is shameful. Their actions should be considered equal to that of an employer who puts employees at risk of harm or death, as a result of poor health and safety practices. I would include culpable manslaughter as one consideration and they should be subject to the same penalties, if they were found guilty, following an independent investigation, if there is such a thing under this government.
no mate not quite although have picked up a few Aussie bad habits. Looking forward to hopefully to getting home in June. Nearly three months late.......trust me....... Sorry that I don’t see things the same way as you over this issue.........
Chilcs pointed out earlier the change in counting methord to massage the number. I'll add another fudge you may not be aware of re PPE. Gloves were counted individually, one pair equals two. No wonder many are sceptical about government statements. Finally tests are being done weeks late, the opportunity was lost and people have died because of it. What concerns me now is the tracing program, here's some background. Really hope it starts to drop in the next couple weeks, or people exercise real caution even when the lockdown is lifted. Some relaxing may be possible, people rush back to status quo it'll take three weeks maximum to hit a new peak.
That's what I think. Especially in the cities. Relax it to much and it'll just creep back in straight away. The tube will be chaos directly they ease lockdown.
