Which of the players that we loaned did we go on to buy, and which carried on doing well? Borini, yes and no Any others?
Our worst transfer maybe. Then there are the players that we loaned and nearly managed to buy. Shay Given springs to mind, and Mvila.
According Kenny dalglish autobiography we were never going to sign Given To me everybody raved how good Given was & rightly so But when he left Alec Chamberlain came back in & was just as good yet never got the plaudits Given did
Alvarez a terrible buy, or a bad deal due to our poor diligence, whatever it was, it was a costly mistake for a handful of games and one goal. I happen to think he could have been a success here given a chance, and he would not have been anywhere near our worst buy, he would be lucky to even make the top ten, there are so many contenders,.
I did like Alvarez as a player. Skillful, good footballer. Shame that he was unlucky with injuries. He was a terrible buy when you look at cost v output.
