On this day 5 years ago, Jefferson Montero's first Swansea City goal helped secure a hard-earned win against a stubborn 10-man Stoke City. After a disjointed goalless first half, Gylfi Sigurdsson twice went close as the Swans dominated after the break. The pressure eventually told with 15 minutes left, as Montero dived to head in Jonjo Shelvey's cross. Stoke's Marc Wilson was sent off late on as he received a second yellow card for bringing down Montero, before Ki Sung-Yueng scored Swansea's second.
Brian was a great guy - the only person I saw him cower in front of was his wife I got to know all the boys in the squad really well. Despite their hard edge on the field - and that’s putting it mildly at times - off it, the majority were great, and especially polite in front of my wife and kids. Got a great photo of Gareth and my son holding the Heineken League trophy in the dressing room after we’d beaten Ponty to pip Cardiff to the title. Did you know the Premier Division trophy was in Cardiff that evening (Cardiff were playing and beating Llanelli 80-0?) - the trophy presented was the First Division trophy: they obviously didn’t expect us to get maximum bonus points that night
