As I said on another thread, I’m not missing it at all. So ending the season now isn’t a bad thing imo.

If and only if it can be done without a risk to those involved health..I do not see the problem with behind closed doors games being televised

I do, Pitty . . . . players will still be involved in what is a contact sport, as will physios, emergency services and others that would need to be involved.

That's without mentioning those that these people go home to :emoticon-0105-wink:

It can only possibly be safe if we are all allowed to go . . . . until then it can't be safe for some :emoticon-0145-shake

Exactly this season has been written off we won't go up just have to look forward to the next game whenever it is.

Will be strange as well as we have lots of players out of contract and surely they wouldn't want to play any extra games where they may get injured if they are past their contract date.

Well the pampered ninnies can make do with one physio/quack per team, ball boys not required, have more balls and with no crowd it will not take long to retrieve balls. Carry their own kit and towels/soap, just as most of us did when playing. Play local where possible, only travel day of the match.

I am sure there are lots of ways to minimise problems, everyone involved to be tested of course

Thing is though say for instance there is an outbreak of COVID in a team.

Do they default loss the game? Will it be replayed?

I can't see it starting up again till we are fully past it and have a vaccine.

    This is the reality

A restart would be a shallow procedure to keep the TV money and give Liverpool the title.

Many of the players would turn up unfit and half hearted ...

... what possible interest would Burnley have in turning up to be thrashed by Liverpool in an empty stadium.

"Players are "scared" about the prospect of returning to action amid the coronavirus pandemic, says Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.
"The majority of players are scared because they have children and families."

Premier League investing in Covid-19 testing machines for return
    • Machines can turn around results in two and a half hours
    • Testing at all remaining matches would be required

Exclusive by David Hytner and Paul MacInnes
    Published:19:49 Thu 30th April 2020

Premier League clubs have invested in coronavirus testing machines that can turn around results in two and a half hours as they gear up towards finding a way to complete the season. The league is overseeing the initiative and it is understood that some clubs in the Championship have also bought the machines, which cost £36,000 and are readily available.

The machines can test only one person every two and a half hours, meaning that clubs could realistically test seven employees each day with them. That, along with the cost, is probably why there is little demand for them from the NHS – whose test results take longer to return.

The Premier League is confident of privately securing the requisite number of test kits to enable top-flight football to restart without impacting on public health needs. Player and personnel testing is a major obstacle to English football finding a way to come back, but the clubs are confident that with the machines they would have the means to check and safeguard their environments, particularly if they were to buy more than one machine.

At a meeting with its shareholder clubs on Friday, the Premier League will discuss new medical protocols devised to ensure a safe return to training, and antigen testing for all players is one of the proposals. No defining votes are expected on training or return-to-play protocols. Instead it will provide an opportunity for clubs to air their thoughts about possible next steps while the league waits for the go-ahead from government.

A meeting between the department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and executives from a number of sports, including the Premier League, is due to take place later in the day.

Elsewhere in Europe countries continued to pursue varying approaches to resolving their seasons in the face of the coronavirus. In France there was confirmation that Ligue 1 had completed after 28 rounds, with Paris Saint-Germain declared champions and two teams, Amiens and Toulouse, relegated from the division.

In Spain the government decided on a protocol for a return to play in which clubs could be back in training on 11th May, though that is dependent on the approval of the department of health. In Germany, meanwhile, which had been anticipated to resume play by 9th May, the chancellor Angela Merkel pushed back a decision on any resumption to next week.

"The machines can test only one person every two and a half hours, meaning that clubs could realistically test seven employees each day with them."

Which means that by the time the last people are tested the first batch, who initially passed, could now be infected and into their 4th or 5th day ...

... the whole idea of sending players out, in empty neutral grounds with sterilised balls, is absolutely pathetic and slightly mental.

People claiming football supporters are suffering psychological problems, as a result of this, should remember we have a close season every year.

How soft are we becoming here? Supporters suffering psychological damage because that can’t get to watch a game? How on earth did we ever survive this long? It’s absolutely pathetic. There are people all over the world dying because of this yet let’s feel sorry for the football fans. It honestly beggars belief.

If the Premier League can (only if govt says no, will it not happen) it will play...nothing to do with fans or health more to do with money.

If the machines cost £36,000 and there is a plentiful supply, each club buys say 10 for £360,000 peanuts compared to what they get from televised behind closed doors games. Also no (or minimal) policing/stewarding costs?

However I cannot see L1 or L2 clubs affording these, not sure about Championship clubs?

I commented similar on the Prem League forum bit. To everyone outside football with no bias it;s just another example of football being egotistically detached from reality. There is simply no need whatsoever for football to return right now. Financially there will be some major issues but there's enough money in the game overall so there should be a solution as no-one wants to end up with just 2-3 leagues in this country.

For the Premier League to be even considering some of these half arsed schemes to return is madness and frankly irresponsible.

Neutral Venues - You can guarantee fans will still attempt to congregate outside these venues
Liverpool win the league behind closed doors - Fans descend on Anfield / Liverpool to celebrate
Players / Staff / Officials all tested and isolated - Where exactly are they going to isolate? Will they all be happy to spend 6 to 8 weeks away from their families etc in some random hotel? How can the Premier League guarantee that their will be no chance of infection getting in?

The whole world is struggling to contain COVID-19 and every person on the planet is having to make changes to the way they live and work, yet football appears to be so important that it will come up with anything in an attempt to finish a season that the vast majority of the world couldn't give two ****s about.

As for the £36,000 machines, how about the Premiership buys all of them and gives them to the government to distribute to people that actually need testing. I'm pretty sure if there were 1,000 machines, which equates to 7,000 extra texts a day the general public would welcome them with open arms.
