Despite the predictable speculative garbage from the rags
Here's what RVP actually had to say about his contract.

2 years is a long time in football, I don't think it's a major issue, hopefully he stays fit and keeps up the great form, a new contract can be negotiated on this basis in time. He has sat out massive parts of his Arsenal career with injury, I don't think many clubs would be prepared to pay massive amounts in transfer and wages to a player with his injury record, only Man City possibly...
I think he will stay on and cement his place in the goal scoring record books for Arsenal.

This the same old chesnut, players use when they think their career lies elsewhere. RVP, knows he will not win anything with us, he is entering the last quadrant of his career..... If he is not willing to sit round the table to discuss signing a new deal, then he should be sold...... He says we are too busy..... Busy doing what? Trying to win the League, CL.... If Manure can take time out of their busy schedule to comitt Shrek to a long term deal, when he had 2yrs still left on his contract, the club should be saying to themselves committ by December or we'll flog you to the highest bidder in January.....Come next summer, we 'll be exactly the same scenario as Nasri....

How much negotiating do you think the player himself actually does?

This is actually a story made up by the DM news team... they have a habit of making up unfounded speculation. I think RVP is fine. He has been one of Arsenal's best players over the past 7 years and perhaps, better than anyone else in the Arsenal team, understands what the ethos and passion of the club is about. Unlike Nasri, who stated that he only used Arsenal as a stepping stone to get to a bigger club.

We'll wait and see if he puts pen to paper this season..... As for Nasri going to a bigger club, are you saying Citeh is a bigger club?

Apparently Nasri thinks so. If any developments happen with RVP's contract, they will happen at the end of the season as well as that is when Arsenal usually conduct most of their contractual business.

Thing is he will want to win trophies in his career and we can give him that at the moment. If we do not buy serious players next summer then can you blame him if he tries to leave?

I don't think Nasri thinks City are a bigger club, they clearly are not, their lack of sucess over the years coupled with a fanbase size that is much smaller than Arsenal's. He was clearly moving for money and the current situation where Man City unlimited spending power has put them in an unjustifiably better place to win trophies right now but thats up for debate as to whether Arsenal can overtake City in the longer term as the oil money may not last forever and we may turn things around.
We are in a tough situation right now but I don't think there is any doubt who is the bigger and more illustrious club from the 2 depite our current difficulties.

Money talks in football, but you can't buy a succesful history or class no matter how many barrels of oil money you burn through.
We will get this act together, a few good wins and we will be back up there where we always are and belong.

Nasri was concerned with the size of the pay cheque not the club <ok>

I for one hope he stays, if not bang in 30 goals this season and we can have 40m at least for him. WOuldnt want to let him go though. ICEMAN pt2 in the making. ... could even beat bergies goals in two season who knows

  12. I too believe he will stay with us but he club should do all it can to show him that it intends to challenge at the very top and that means putting together a team that can achieve this. If it is true that they did try for two club-record signings over the summer, then they need to show that the intent is serious. I think all RvP wants is to win trophies. With the right team we can do it and with him.

Still it worries me that Wenger wont keep him.

Its our club policy thsese days like it or not to sell on our big names as they get to around 30 yrs.

Like Bergkamp RVP should be able to play til his mid thirtys (injury permitting) but what are the chances we'll keep him?

  14. Arsenal had better do a reality check here. This club cannot afford to lose experienced and key players anymore. Losing RvP will set off a chain reaction with Wilshire, Walcott et al. Then we will find it difficult to attract anyone but youngsters. That would be a journey on the road to nowhere.

Do you honestly think the club can show to him or to the fans for that matter, they willing to challenge for major honours (not just by saying)? I wonder if footballers do know if some of their team mates are not up to scratch and that they will not be winning anything anytime soon? The reason I ask is because, I have a 13 yr old son, who scores goals for fun, but the defence leaks them as fast as he scores them......he is not really perturbed by this..... so maybe it is a team game afterall!

Busy playing games - one every 3-4 days. That takes up just about all of the time available to player and manager.
Where did he say he wasn't willing to sit round the table to discuss signing a new deal?

    He didn't

He said that they will probably sort it out at the end of the season.

It might be worthwhile actually reading what the player said, rather than just making it up <ok>
