Is it the poor quality of our strikers that can't get goals or is it the lack of chances created by our midfielders? ( Or both?)
Not sure; need more goals to put results to bed; but maybe it's the championship at the moment. If you look at the weekends results, most teams scored one goal at most (only Derby got more I think).
Probably a bit of both I think. But sometimes strikers have to make things happen for themselves but the service could be a little better.
Agree with OLM, not playing Fryatt is a massive factor, he scores goals for fun. Just had a dip in form, although now I hope he has had the wake up call and knows that his place in the team is not certain week in week out. We create enough chances, how many times do we walk away from games and say 'it should of been 3 or 4' but it wasn't.
I will have to disagree with the majority and say that I'm loving Fryatt been on the bench, his head still aint right and until it is, this where he should remain until his body language changes. Who got us the winner at Peterborough, who got the assist for Koren on Saturday? Waghorn scored against Portsmouth only for it to be disallowed and let loose with a cracking shot agaibst Bristol, too hot for James to handle. Waghorn and McLean everytime for me. When you talk about service, McLean weighs in with service for others in abundance, should score more though granted and for me, McLean is a handful and awkward for oppositions defences. Fryatt gets a bit too predictable at times how he tries to beat his man then tries to beat him a second time. Like Fryatt a lot but the balance is cock on at the mo with him on the bench and we are not losing games.
Think NP may bring Fryatt in tomorrow to freshen things up! Saying that I thought he would start @ Bristol
Your best players should always be on the pitch, not the bench and Fryatt is in a different class to Mclean. Both have now played in the same amount of games for us(30), Fryatt has scored 10, Mclean has scored 4.
we are still WiP although rapidly getting there. We still also need that 'Neil Danns type" midfielder but I think overall we are in a better place now than we were even 12 months ago with Garcia, Stewart and seemingly, Olifinjana waiting in the wings
"...I would always pick Fryatt to start..." - over who at the moment. McLean is an asset and a workhorse (abeit for 60 mins per game). Waghorn will score goals and when he does he will get plenty. What else would you change to accommodate Fryatt? Having said that, the 3 games in 8 days argument might see Fryatt come in for Waghorn tomorrow.
Disagree, Fryatt is a finisher and our best striker. Don't get me wrong I like McLean, but He's not a goalscorer at this level, as simple as that. Yes, he scored a good goal at Peterborough, yes he played a back heel to set up Koren at Bristol, im pleased. But we all know Fryatt is our man. Every fan pilled pressure on him at the beginning of the season because he was the only goalscorer in the team. Waggy has brought him a bit of leway and im sure they can both partner each other tomorrow night and come back with a couple of goals each.
Maybe we should be sacrificing a midfielder to play all 3 up top? Waghorn, McLean and Fryatt. 4-3-3 formation?
we dont have the midfield players to do that yet. and as Mr Pearson always talks about a back 5, i think we wont have either
Mclean 3 and Fryatt 2 so far. Interestingly, Koren has 9 assists for us, though obviously he's been with us half a season longer.
When Pearson was at Leicester he did play 4-3-3 a lot in League 1. But like Mussie said, its not going to happen as we don't have the midfield players. Tomorrow's line up will depend on Koren's fitness. If he is out then Fryatt will be brought in and Waggy moved slightly wider like he played for England U21s.
IF Koren is injured then yes I think Waghorn should form part of the 4 man midfield and play out wide with McLean and Fryatt up top, this could be as good as 4-3-3 any way, this way, we have 3 very attack minded players on the field together.
