Setting aside the UEFA issue, as that would preclude our sides from next season’s European comps. I just don’t see how restarting a curtailed season 6 months later, is in any way the same competition in anything but name.

President of European leagues at UEFA agrees with what I’ve said all along. Finishing this season is only a priority up until it ****s with next season at which point next season takes priority.

 

Money most likely. He knows his target audience. Most fans would prefer to wipe the slate clean and start again not because it's fair or because they are bitter but because for many teams it's approaching the point in the season where there's not really anything to play for any more. My team (newcastle) have 35 points and 9 games to play. We're not getting relegated, we're not getting into Europe so we're just playing out the season on virtual auto-pilot. The hype at the start of a season is there for all clubs.

I'd still prefer to play out this season even if it does mess with next season but if i had a monetary interest in football I suspect I'd be calculating it differently (so many variables there before people all start pitching in with "definite" answers)
