You can't have evidence to predict/prove that, that's not how it works. What they do know is that people mingling spreads the virus, and the virus kills people. It kills less people if they can be treated properly, but as we have ****all capacity for treating people we had to lock down.

If the NHS wasn't left to be in such a state then we wouldn't have needed as long a lockdown. If we'd quarantined people on inbound flights we wouldn't have needed as long a lockdown. If we tested and traced infected people early on we wouldn't have needed as long a lockdown. Etc...

I think we are above the south, obviously meaning we should be following that model instead of that of the UK as a whole.

I think you're firing out statements without anything to back them up.

It's obvious that "mingling" will spread a virus, that's being happening since the beginning of humanity. The statement is that there is no evidence that Lockdown saves lives.

A significant portion of deaths have taken place in nursing homes. Nursing homes were out of bounds almost from the very beginning. If lockdown worked then most if not all these deaths would have been prevented.

The NHS has never been overwhelmed. At present, all the Covid hospitals remain largely unused. And long may that continue.

The stats last week showed that there was also a spike in non Covid deaths. Meaning that folk with other ailments were choosing to not go to hospital as the fear of death inhibits them. Possible another indicator that Lockdown is costing lives as opposed to saving them.

We can't lose sight of the fact that the virus attacks the weak and elderly, primarily, those treating the sick become susceptible having not had sufficient PPE but to wreck the economy, which will take years to recover may cost more lives than any virus.

My man on the inside reckons lockdown - in its present form - will be extended for a further three weeks. :emoticon-0176-smoke

Is there a difference? Paddy’s day was cancelled in both jurisdictions I believe.

Also, about half the population of the South was probably at Cheltenham the week before lockdown, how do you factor that in?

The lockdown has proven to be a massive success regarding the spread of Covid-19. By your own admission hardly anyone has caught it so it's a winner.

Lockdown = can't really prove how many lives are saved but businesses are going to take a hit
No Lockdown = will have to wait and see how many people die before knowing exact figures but everyone else will be will be quids in. Soz to you or your family if you die because we did nothing

Can you imagine the carnage if the Government put small business profits ahead of national health?

The Lockdown has maybe halted the spread of Covid, no one actually knows because we've not tested more than 1m people yet which is still less than 2% of the population. We know that 80% of folk who get it show no symptoms so theoretically, we could all have had it and didn't even know.

Your simplistic view is not surprising as we've seen your decision making to be suspect on many occasions in the past with particular reference to the choice of shagging almost white Rita Ora or shagging obese she-whale Vanessa Feltz.

If Businesses are hit, then not only does the UK lose potential Corp Tax, PAYE and NI, it will also have to pay redundancy, Universal Credit as employees are paid off. This will happen, and your precious public services inc NHS etc will be poorer for it.

We will have to wait and see with regards to how this plays out but we can't live our lives in such a horrendous conditions that the State has stopped us from going out, from visiting friends and family and from being able to earn money.

Would you give a toss about lockdown if you were minted? Would you care if you were on a salary that was guaranteed for as long as lockdown lasted? Would you have a different opinion if you or a family member was in hospital on a ventilator gasping their last?

GC is here to polarize opinion, I don't expect consensus. We can't even agree on biscuits ffs. Keep up the good work.

The pubs and stuff stayed open longer up here, plus it isn't only people from the south goto Cheltenham. As an island we should have went 100% the same, hardly like a virus knows nor cares what a border is but der hun wanted to follow their heroes at Westminster. If it turns out that there is a significant difference questions will be asked.
