KPR, I'd watch who you're talking about there, most of the old kop was protestant, or atleast they sung protestant songs. You shouldn't be insulting Liverpool's heritage.

I do hate reading things like this on Liverpool forums. It gives the actual fans a bad name. And more often than not it is from fans who didn't grow up in or around Liverpool. I remember first watching a Liverpool game in a pub somewhere other than in the north-west and all I heard was nonsense from people with London and southern accents. I think this is at an extreme with forums. It seems to be an insecurity built up in these "fans" who decided to support a team not from there local area. When you go to Anfield, when you go to the pub before and after the game you can have a real discussion with fans, who discuss Liverpool players and our current form. There is no complaining about Rooney and United and United fans (except of course if it is after a game with the old enemy).

Now I live in Germany I find it even more difficult to watch matches in pubs, it is always tourists from all around the world speaking as if they represent the whole fan base when they have probably only been to Liverpool once before on a pilgrimage. I am a Liverpool fan, I went to Anfield regularly for 16 years and grew up 15 minutes from the ground, I have nothing but a friendly rivalry with United, I do not despise them or their fans. I respect them for what they have achieved in the same way they did 30 years ago when we were kings of the league and this is how my friends also think. We need to focus on getting ourselves to that level again rather than having this jealous mentality that some of you have.

We accept that we haven't been comparable to United in the past 20 years except for when Rafa brought us close a few years back. Our rivals this year in relation to the league are Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea. City and United will finish above us, they have stronger squads. Our owners accept this and our manager accepts this. Lets talk about Liverpool and our players rather than other clubs and players as anything otherwise is pointless.

No matter how you feel about Bergkamp ignoring clear evidence that well respected and knowledgeable coaches think Rooney is an exceptional player is poor form.

Thats not quite true Lucaaas,Liverpool's Kop and Everton's Gwaldys Street both sing/sang a mixture of catholic and protestant "tunes" with the original lyrics changed to suit they're respective clubs.

Neither of the clubs support has ever come exclusively from the Catholic or Protestant tradition,In fact both clubs were founded Protestants.

Sam Johnstone of the Football Research Unit at Liverpool University says those speculating on the origins of the Liverpool-Everton, Protestant-Catholic thing are talking nonsense. "Both clubs were founded by the same people (essentially the wealthy, protestant middle classes of 19th-century Liverpool) from the same church (St Domingo's, a protestant church)," he says.

"The story of Liverpool's formation is familiar to all. Everton were formed in 1878, team falls out with John Houlding (the guy who owns Anfield), Houlding forms Liverpool FC in 1892, the rest we know about. What is more interesting is the involvement of the Masons. The guys who formed LFC and EFC were wealthy, middle class, protestant, businessmen and, importantly, pillars of the political and religious establishment (Houlding went on to become Lord Mayor of Liverpool). Freemasonry attracted these very people (for many reasons) and it is known that Houlding and his friend W Barclay were in the Lodge.

"And, of course, this was repeated nationwide. For those teams that didn't come specifically from the Catholic church (Celtic), it was likely that the factory and mill owners were involved in charitable organisations, religion and politics (all masonic activities). It is no coincidence that the meeting that led to the formation of the FA took place in a pub called the Freemason's Tavern.

The whole Liverpool/Everton Catholic/Protestant perception depends on where you live.

Religion has no place in Football for starters.

As for KiPpeR........I dont know how many times us United fans have to show this idiot up but its got to a point where Liverpool and United fans find themselves being civilised, well mannered and respectful towards each other because we all agree that his bullshit insane ramblings are bad for both sets of fans.

You'll find most of the Liverpool posters on Not606 are "not from Liverpool or surrounding areas" and without them our board would be crap also Liverpool FC's out of town support is due to the success we had during your time going to the games and should be made welcome,of course many supporters that have an opinion about the club they love wont ever get the chance to go to Anfield,Its a long way from say the USA or Malaysia etc to Liverpool.

When i first started going to the match it was almost all local support but now when you go in the pubs around the ground before games there are supporters from all over the UK,from Ireland(north and south),Europe and beyond.

I for one welcome our "out of town" support and i've made many friends down the years from these adopted "Scousers".

Rooney is a very good player thats without question. The debate on here is whether he should be mentioned in the same breath as a footballing genius like Kenny Dalglish. My point is that he shouldn't. He is not in the same league as Bergkamp and as I pointed out, Bergkamp, Beardsley and Zola were as close to Dalglish as you are going to get, I said close but not close enough.
Great players do things that make people sit up and ask ''How in the name of sweet jesus did he do that?'' Not once has Rooney ever done that. Some people may mention his overhead, loads of players have scored overheads, even Peter Crouch has scored an overhead. Its edge of the seat stuff like Bergkamps first touch and swivel against Newcastle.
Matt Le Tissier could have been one of Englands greatest ever players, but he spent too long in comfort zone and never tested himself. It was a lack of ambition not talent that let him down.

    Bergkamp, Beardsley and Zola

Rooney is better than all 3 as a footballer.

As for rooney and edge of the seat stuff..... everyperson here knows Rooney can, will and does stuff on a football field that makes you go WOW.

Probably best if you stopped typing from now on.

I thought he was a "third rate clogger"? Or is this just another example of trying to backtrack after being shown up again?

I only said that because there was an idiot on here that was claiming Rooney is Zidane, Ronaldinho and Platini rolled into one and dismissed Luis Suarez as a quality footballer. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that he is.
Rooney is a very good footballer, but to be mentioned in the same breath as a footballing genius as Kenny Dalglish, not in a million years. Bergkamp, Beardsley and Zola were light-years in terms of skill, technique and intelligence ahead of Rooney.

You are a disgrace...coming from Ireland too. I bet you have never been to Anfield, because if you spouted crap like this you would be hounded out of the ground.

    Hang your head in shame....

Man United fans are claiming Rooney produced genius because of an over-head that bounced off his shin. Firstly it was a good over-head, but not a great overhead, I've seen better ie Robbie Fowlers against Charlton in 2001. Secondly it wasn't spectacular as it is far easier for Rooney at 5ft 8 to score a over-head than say Dimitar Berbatov 6ft odd or Peter Crouch at 6ft 7.
I've seen Dennis Bergkamp produce pieces of genius that Rooney not in a million years has produced or will ever produce and one example is the goal he scored against Newcastle. Then again Rooney has never produced a piece of genius like the goal Luis Suarez scored against Wolves. He took a ball from a long pass, turned Berra inside out and scored from a relatively difficult angle.

Disagree about the view on out of towners. Was a member of the Madrid LFC branch and I've never met as good a bunch of LFC fans in my life. Right until his sacking they were signing for Rafa come win or loss. One guy was almost thrown out the pub for shouting about our **** tactics and our poor line-up for the match that day. Added to that the fact that most members flew to games every weekend. Admirable when you consider the dross that Woy served up. (Although most were against woy, fair enough) Overall it was a good mix of UK expats (some scouse) and native spaniards. All had the same love for the club.
