NAH! Just like being beaten at the near post, a keeper should NEVER let the ball loop over his head like that. Pitman wasn't even in the penalty area for goodness sake!
watch the full lead up to the goal and make an opinion then. as a side issue also check out how many fouls Brady didnt get with McGivens foot up his arse.
The original post was looking for clarification, nothing more or less. Bristol City fans said Basso was to blame, I was'nt there and there was no TV footage available at the time I made this thread. I now concur with the Bristol City fan's in as much that Basso should have stayed on his line. Had a one on one position occured then Basso MUST Come off his line, but any way this was not the case. At the time when a long bang up front from the half way line occurs the keeper should be on his goal line. I now have my clarification that Basso has to accept some liability as do the Rosenior, Hobbs and maybe Chester as the header happened slap bang in the middle, on the edge of the area. Hobbs and Chester should have easily dealt with the scorer instead of Rosenior having to get dragged across out of position. Shakespeare also questions Basso's positioning on the clubs Official website (Tigers Player) uploaded within last 2 hours.
I always watch the keepers closely in games, having been one myself in my playing days. It seemed to me that Basso was expecting the ball to come through to him untouched (either by defence or the Brizzle guy) and was positioning himself accordingly. The resulting header caught him out and was either pinpoint execution or a fluke. Still, Basso did more than enough to justify his place before and after the goal. I wasn't sure about the foul on Cairney. A lot of people thought it was.
He was a long way off his line, but these things happen, it looks like he was brilliant for the rest of the game. Strange that Tigers Player doesn't show the contentious foul on Cairney at all.
I think he did more good things than bad in this game throughout the 90 minutes but just a little gutted it cost us 3 points. I'm looking forward to watching the full match back on Tigers player once its uploaded to check on this contentious foul.
IMO it was a foul and there were many others committed on Brady by McGiven that went unpunished. Having said that, once we had the lead we should have won but and didnt really look like conceding, but, to use an annoying cliche, (and the Bristol fans will no doubt quote it) '...on the balance of play a draw was possibly fair...'. Before the game, I d have taken a draw. Bristol City are in a false position and will not go down with the likes of Maynard, Pitman and Elliot in their team. Dont like to knock refs, but the inconsistency of decision was annoying!
