I saw him one Boxing Day in a massive crowd at Stamford Bridge. They were playing Man. Utd and it was a very fiesty affair. He seemed very quick over short distances, but I doubt that he would have kept up for very long with some of the flyers we see today.
A fine player and a gifted goalscorer. This comes to mind whenever I hear his name - his hat trick against Scotland in 1961. I didn't see the game, but watched this at a cinema shortly after. Rumour has it that the despondent Scotland keeper jumped in front of a bus after the match - but it went underneath him...
Greaves is one of he few players who would be a success today playing the way he played in his time. (Best is another). I once atched an ineresting video of quite a few of his goals. The video was quite short, even though it had many goals, because he seemed to do so little! But the amazing thing was the ball alays went in the opposite direction to the one it looked like it was going just before he hit it. Extraordinary !
Former Chelsea and England goalkeeper Peter Bonetti has died aged 78 after a long illness. Bonetti was described by Chelsea as a "goalkeeping superstar of the 1960s and 1970s" and "one of our indisputably all-time great players". He was part of England's 1966 World Cup-winning squad but was unused throughout the tournament.

This follows significant Companies House legal documentation that emerged on Tuesday morning, proving legal framework for a deal was being put in place by the two parties. The price agreed by Ashley is closer to £300m, rather than the original asking price of around £340m and it is thought the coronavirus pandemic has had a significant impact on the value of the club. The Saudi fund (PIF), controlled by Prince Mohammed bin Salman will hold 80 per cent of the club shares, while Amanda Staveley will hold 10 per cent of the shares and it is expected that she will play a key role in the running of the club. The final 10 per cent will be controlled by billionaire brothers, David and Simon Reuben. They have significant property interests in the Newcastle area - including owning the city's racecourse. According to Companies House, Mike Ashley is set to aid Amanda Staveley and her consortium, which involves the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, to the tune of £150m, with that money then paid back to Ashley in instalments in years to come.
