Good Morning. It's Tuesday 28th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road All Guests welcome to join in!!! FIFA propose increasing substitute use to five per club FIFA have put forward a new proposal increasing the use of substitutes to five per side, per game. The unusual move is supposed to help players who may have lost fitness during the coronavirus epidemic. There will be three allocated stoppages during each game (plus half time) when Managers can make changes. The IFA (International Football Association), who govern the rules of football have yet to approve the idea. If and when it is approved, it will be up to the Premier League / EFL whether they want to implement the idea. A FIFA spokesman was quoted as saying:- "When competitions resume, such competitions are likely to face a congested match calendar with a higher-than-normal frequency of matches played in consecutive weeks," "Safety of the players is one of FIFA's main priority then. One concern in this regard is that the higher-than-normal frequency of matches may increase the risk of potential injuries due to a resulting player overload. "In light of this and in light of the unique challenge faced globally in delivering competitions according to the originally foreseen calendar, FIFA proposes that a larger number of substitutions be temporarily allowed at the discretion of the relevant competition organiser. "In competitions where less than five substitutions are currently allowed, each team would now be given the possibility to use up to five substitutions during the match, with the possibility of an additional substitution remaining during extra time, where relevant." please log in to view this image Would 5 substitutes per game benefit Leeds Should the number of useable substitutes be increased to five per team, per game, what kind of impact would that have on Leeds? Surely, if any team is not gong to be effected by fitness problems, it's going to be Leeds; but with Bielsa's tactical experience in the game, does that give Leeds an advantage over their competitors? Would you say Bielsa's use of substitutes has been a strength, compared to other teams? Does Bielsa think he has five reliable substitutes? please log in to view this image Orta - Casilla has big role to play at Leeds Media reports claim Victor Orta has been in constant contact with Kiko Casilla to try to convince the ex Real Madrid shot stopper that he has a big role to play at Leeds United when the season resumes The 33yo has returned to Spain since his eight game ban came into effect has spent time, ruling him out of action until the last day of the season? Since his return to his homeland, Casilla fears that his reputation has been tarnished and has been considering a domestic move is on the cards Despite this, Victor Orta has been in contact contact with his fellow Spaniard offering him Leeds full support and making it clear he has a big role to play when the team’s Championship campaign restarts. Morning Elland and all. Nice sunny one here. If season somehow gets underway, I hope we can get off to a flyer and finish the job early. We depend more on a hardcore of 13 or 14 players than many clubs so need to finish job before potential injuries. We all know what happened when that useless Philips lad missed a few games
Realistically whatever happens Kiko isn't going to be playing a significant role in the remainder of this season.
I can imagine making 5 substitutions in a match could quite easily be disruptive on a teams play, would think if your 3/4 up, with 10 to.go you could rest a few I suppose.
Guys, I look after Ascot & Lords for our business and following a call there is some positive responses from the government about getting behind closed doors BHA were working with the government alongside the FA & ECB (football/Cricket) to devise a way of holding events behind closed doors. They will create a bio secure site, everyone will be sent a tests, too tests exist ; one which is have you had it (not full proof) and the other have you got it 100% accurate. They will self test two days prior the "I dont have it test" and then take a temperature prior to entering. They will reduce the field of the larger races and keep people in different areas to ensure distancing wherever possible. Alongside a deep clean they have had some positive responses. Hopefully this will help pave the way to more things opening but also a sign that events will be scrutinised heavily. This is based around 500 people onsite.
I did read that unless through an injury the subsitutions would have time windows of when they could be made so I would imagine none permitted in the final 10 minutes? All seems a bit pointless and Bielsa doesn't like making subs and it would benefit others more than us. Opposition have always tired chasing the game against us, we do well in the second half. Morning all
I got 39/40 https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/snack-quiz/quiz-do-you-know-the-nickname-of-these-40-efl-clubs/
I bet you got the Leeds Utd one wrong I got one wrong, I should have gone with my gut, but over thought it.
I don’t like the idea. A professional athlete should be able to keep themselves fit. There are plenty of 20 stone blokes who manage to put in 90 minutes hungover on a Sunday morning. It seems to me this is the type of thing that the Premier League would’ve like to have introduced anyway (more time for ad breaks and trying to create more drama.) They know the traditionalists would be opposed to it but this gives them an excuse for a trial. Who knows how it would effect us. The increased substitutes could help the high tempo style or it could be a leveller with unfit teams being able to put on fresh legs.
39/40 for me. Had no idea about Bristol Rovers. Kid's name anyway! Stick the 5 subs. That allows a tired opposition to field a new defence against us. Another attempt to deride us by taking away one of our big advantages. If Kiko has indeed been guilty of the racism charge, we should use it to get rid. Failing that, we should use his poor displays to get rid.
Just a thought - should the FA/EFL pay for the required short contract extensions that apparently threaten several teams' capability of completing the season?
I think they should be treated the same way as a contracted player and clubs should pay their wage. The borrowing club should also get first option with the parent club on the extended contract. So for example, we want to keep Ben White we continue to pay his wages and he isn’t permitted to return until the end of the season. If there is a mid-table team with nothing to play for and struggling for cash, I feel they should be allowed to say to their loan players you go back, we don’t need you BUT that player can’t play for another club until the season is finished.
Simon Jordan made the point on talksport to day that players are contracted to their clubs and paid to 31st July. Clubs allow them to leave on the 30th June so they can sign elsewhere on a free and it saves the club a month's wages. Another point made was some contracts state 'to the end of the season' but not sure if this would apply in the current situation.
This season we look a better team without making too many subs Take our last six matches unbeaten run Huddersfield.....79' 83' 93' Hull.....................67' 88' 88' Middlesbro........73' Reading..............37' (enforced Phillips injury) 85' Bristol City.........75' 90' Brentford...........76' So twelve subs in six games One was enforced due to Kalvin's injury Five maybe six were purely to slow the game down & waste a bit of time. Four were to give Pablo & Paddy (x 3) a breather The earliest sub we made was Roberts for Bamford in the 67th minute as the game was more or less over Eleven of the subs made were for our attacking players. WHO NEEDS FIVE SUBS? possibly the opposition as we generally wear teams out by the last quarter
I don't think it's a question of money, more willingness of the out of contract players. As Lee Bowyer said, you've haven't offered them new deals, and you've been telling these players all season that they are not in your plans for next season, and now your asking them to do you a favour. Baring in mind, majority of them probably already have new clubs lined up, there's no way they are going to risk injury in the last few games that could scupper that deal.
39 for me too. Always thought Forest were the sticky trees They have 16 players out of contract on 30th June and are under a transfer embargo. They are not struggling, they are fooked. Some of you might have heard of the solicitor acting on their new owners behalf - a certain Chris Farnell.
