PPG, current standings, last seasons standings, coefficients, finishing the league, a play off and any number of other ways of determining the positions can all be argued to be based on sporting merit and UEFA won’t give a **** which method is used. As long as they have a selection of top teams from across Europe for the viewing figures and money. And whether the league is cancelled or not doesn’t stop the European places being handed out on “sporting merit”.
You're arguing a point when you obviously haven't even read what UEFA have actually said. Just for starters it has to be sporting merit based on the 19/20 season.
That's more or less what everyone has been saying, respect the positions but don't award anything not yet won. Who do propose to put forward for the two missing teams, City and the EL winners?
Yet if you were to finish 5th or 6th you would still get a place based on being last seasons champions, how does that fit in with sporting merit of 19/20 only?
So ...... we've been knocked out of this season's CL but if we finish 5th or 6th we'd go straight into next year's CL because we won it the year before. Makes sense .....

No mate, hence why I asked. I’d only read news reports I’d not looked on their website. I have now like. IF games don’t get played out (which I think they’ll somehow do anyway here in some cack handed manner btw) then I don’t see why they haven’t just said you’ll have to call the leagues as they are, without this ‘sporting merit’ woolyness.
There is this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52399043 It's true that it doesn't say that UEFA are restricting sporting merit to 2019/20 (in fact the Spanish talk of co-efficients does exactly the contrary), but it does state UEFA have effectively taken null and void off the table. And that is now three sources...
Not at all, i still say that you can't just award un-earned gifts to anyone any more than you can take peoples status away without them losing it. We have to put teams forward for next seasons UEFA comps though so if they chose this way fair enough, if they reset to last years placings also fair as those teams actually earned those places over a full season.
