It might only lift the mood of those who like sport. It could backfire badly if it looks like sportsmen have a different set of rules to everybody else.
Do you have a link from the Government saying this? Only the in article I read, the headline didn't match the article, which was more relating to a group of back benchers.
It's in The Times (paywall), so I don't know the detail in the article... https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/...=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1587925979
Aye, I think the headline is perhaps painting a picture from other comments. Meeting the five tests is key to it all.
I read the article earlier...theres a joint government working group with various sports bodies looking and wanting a return of some major sports behind closed doors of course is the jist of it.....personally i can't see the issue with sports like cricket or even football.
If they want to lift the national mood they should play games behind closed doors, but announce beforehand that whatever the outcome Leeds will stay down...
I think there are a lot of sports easier to start again than football There would be some numb nut fans of certain clubs wanting to gather outside a stadium even if played with the doors closed if it meant they were there when their club won the Premier League for example. And just in practical terms you can’t pretend you can play football without getting within less than 2m, and I suspect from what Raab said that distancing will still be encouraged for a while yet. I can see golf, motor sports, athletics and tennis being much more reasonable to start first.
To be fair, rivalries have diminished now 'we're all in it together'. I'm about to have a bit of fun with my Leeds supporting neighbour who's challenged me to a water fight. I'm just waiting for the kettle to boil...
Presumably to prevent throngs of supporters wanting to congregate outside "behind closed doors" scenarios ? As far away as possible from home grounds.
They could play out the season with a series of 5-a-side games in the Excel centre, plenty of unused space in there and medical facilities on tap.
Interesting that the French have halted the season for their top two leagues BUT they have made no decision on whether teams get promoted and relegated - you would think that that would have been a major component when making such an announcement.
It's because the government have said no football can be played, leaving the leagues to now decide how to decide the season.
I see your point but surely you would think the Government would not have made such a unilateral decision without consulting with the league authorities - the Clubs seem to have been caught off guard.
It seems they had no prior knowledge, according to the Telegraph - 'Uefa and French football have been left stunned by the surprise announcement that France has banned all sporting events until September'.
