I bought Black Mesa when it was around a fiver on early access. I'm going to have to totally disagree with you on Windows for gaming but that's for another discussion! I've been running a bog standard consumer water cooler for years, silent and space saving. I can understand your concern though I haven't overclocked anything in a long time, can't see the point with the speed of today's components, not worth damaging anything by pushing it too far. I was wondering how the lock down will influence prices. I was hoping, by the time I upgrade, the newer Ryzens will push the price of the lesser specced (but more than capable) CPUs down but we'll have to see how production's affected. I've never bought cutting edge, just too expensive and certainly not value for money.
If you are going to be playing modern-day gaming titles and want the best performance possible while running decent-grade hardware, it is safe to say that Windows 10 is going to offer the best possible performance. However, that does not make Linux useless. Keep in mind that these benchmarks were being run at a resolution of 2560 x 1600. please log in to view this image While you can engage in increased gaming sessions on a machine that is running SteamOS, it is safe to say that both SteamOS and Ubuntu are not able to keep up with Microsoft’s latest operating system despite the developmental leaps that have taken place in the past few years. If you want to game, Windows 10 currently remains the best choice over Linux and SteamOS. While there is no competition with Microsoft’s latest operating system, we should not ignore the fact that Linux has made some tremendous gains in a brief period.................
I don't even know where to start with that, it's complete bollocks! No offence As you mentioned Shadow Of Mordor then check out this from last year. There's a slight advantage for Win10 but that's purely down to the the optimisation of the port. There are currently over 6000 native Linux builds of games on Steam and nearly the same amount again perfectly playable Windows only games, through Proton. And all from the Steam client - click to play. Windows games such as 'Doom Eternal' and 'Halo: Combat Evolved'. Personally I stick to the native titles as 1. I don't have the time to play all those games and 2. I'm not a 15 year old who has to play all the latest games all his mates from the playground have Oh, and 3. I can't afford 40 to 50 quid a pop just to have the latest game. If you do need all that then yes, Windows is your best choice Just to reiterate - the only reason some games will be faster on Win10 is due to optimisation for the OS, not the OS itself. Take a look around the GOL website linked above and also check out Phoronix.com for tons of OS and hardware benchmarks, it's good to be enlightened
Fair enough, party pooper! What did you make of Star Trek Picard? I enjoyed it more than I thought I was going to! I do like Patrick Stewart. Blatant set up at the end for another series
Got series 2 of Ricky Gervais' "After Life" to watch. Anyone see the first series? Bloody hilarious. I couldn't believe it when I watched it - it was filmed literally down the road from where I live! It's amazing how the magic of TV makes things look different Also got that new Chris Hemsworth film to watch - Extraction. The action sequences are apparently shot as one continuous take, some up to 12 minutes. No CGI or stuntmen involved.
Plan on watching Extraction tomorrow looking forward to it. I did watch a snippet of Gangs of London yesterday on Sky Atlantic, it does look good.
Extraction was ok, gangs of London is brill so far I'm on episode 6, very violent. Afterlife season 2 had good bits like s1.
Bloody hell, lost count of what day it is, after you lot I will be watching all the bloody adverts, and recommending the best to you lot. Da yw Duw I bawb .
I don't get Sky Atlantic, so missed a lot of Sky's best stuff. There are other sources though, so I'm led to believe
I haven't watched it all yet - only seen the first 3 episodes. It certainly seems darker than I was expecting.
I'm going to watch the final Homeland episode tonight - I'm gutted it's ended, it's been one of my favourite ever shows since it started.
