All sport or just football....theres a fair few sports that could be played without spectators for the time being...Golf, Cricket, Tennis spring to mind and at least it would give everyone a break from watching Netflix.
Golf are on about getting a million tests kits to play a tournament!! How’s any more would football need And should a load of ****ers be getting tested constantly when frontline staff and people keeping the country going aren’t getting tested???!
If the season is not completed it sets a dangerous precedent for the future. I think they'll agree to finish it, with a continuation in late August with a December finish. What happens next is anyone's guess.
Another sign that the world of sport is attempting to return to some version of normality, via Sid Lowe, in Madrid. Spain’s footballers will undergo daily coronavirus tests under a protocol for a return to training La Liga hopes to set in motion from the second week of May. There will be three stages to training – individual, small group and full team – and the first tests are pencilled in for next Tuesday. From the second stage, squads will be obliged to live together in isolation, away from their families. A match-day protocol, first drafted in March, is being updated, with the league’s president, Javier Tebas, warning clubs that fans are unlikely to be able to attend games until after Christmas.
Dale Johnson @DaleJohnsonESPN Big news from the Netherlands. No relegation OR promotion this season. It was thought Cambuur (11 points clear) and De Graafschap (7) would be promoted from the second division to create a 20-team Eredivisie next season.
The final table if no more games are played and they decide league position based on points per game... 1.Liverpool - 2.83 2.Manchester City - 2.04 3.Leicester City - 1.83 4.Chelsea - 1.66 5.Manchester United - 1.55 6.Sheffield United - 1.54 7.Wolves - 1.48 8.Arsenal - 1.43 9.Tottenham - 1.41 10.Burnley - 1.34 11.Crystal Palace - 1.34 12.Everton - 1.28 13.Newcastle United - 1.21 14.Southampton - 1.17 15.Brighton - 1.00 16.West Ham United - 0.93 17.Watford - 0.93 18.Bournemouth - 0.93 19.Aston Villa - 0.89 20.Norwich City - 0.72
They are setting up a series of meetings to discuss it, if you remember Yes Prime minister, then I wouldn't hold your breath "The meetings are viewed as preparatory, and intended to avoid a further delay to seasons being resumed once approval is granted, rather than a sign that it was imminent. Indeed, there is an acceptance that the plans being put in place may not end up being implemented for months if progress elsewhere is not made." https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/52423767
So if teams are going to be relegated from the Premier League there will have to be promotions from the Championship, which means there will have to be promotions from League 1 and so on. Too much fannying about for the lower league clubs, not going to happen. And if and when a player gets tested positive for the virus the whole thing would turn to ****.
And, I think somebody posted earlier, what if key workers can't get tested but suddenly footballers can?
If this lockdown rattles on why not re start the season at a date to be confirmed whilst keeping everything exactly as it is? That way those who are in a position to win something or be promoted have a full season too complete that task and likewise those who are in danger of the drop or in trouble like we are have more than enough games to get out of trouble or sink.
Just null it and have the PL distribute recompense to those clubs who aren't going up, I'm sure they can afford it. The EFL can then pay off the clubs that don't get promoted. The only club that should be going up is Barrow, as they would take Bury's place in the League. Then promote each of the Champions below that, with the north south champions going up based on whoever has the most points.
As football is a business, and the simplest solutions are often the best, my* suggestion for football is that the 4 Champions League places should be given to the 4 clubs which made the most profit between 2014 to 2019. Which would be Liverpool, Spurs, Burnley and Hull City. *now copyrighted.
Looking at our place in the table, our form before lockdown and our squad, I would happily take a closing or voiding of the season right now as it means we're in the Championship whenever it restarts. Any form of playing to end the season behind closed doors, or play offs or any such nonsense introduces a wild card element which is just too random and unpredictable given we are precariously close to the drop zone.
The government has urged the Premier League and other sporting competitions to significantly step up planning for a return to action behind closed doors in the hope of lifting the national mood during the coronavirus crisis (Times Sport).
