.. and were out in the gutter dying, what would be the one thing you'd look on with real affection about the NE in general and Sunderland in particular. Despite being forced, by pit closures, to leave it's still very much home to me ... ... I love the place. Because of the line of work I've followed I've been unable to live there but love to get north of Scotch Corner. It's always a great feeling and I can totally relax with people I feel at home with. So, family and friends aside, what would it be for you ... ... in general it's the people and the vast array of accents, in Sunderland it's the river and all it means to the history of the place.
Living in Wakefield which is pretty much central in the country, I have to say the sea. We love sitting in the bungalow cafe at Roker looking out, watching the activity on the river and the waves crashing over the piers, bliss.
I live in Huddersfield, but closer to Wakefield, where we do all our shopping. For me it would be Seaburn beach, where I spent many happy hours as a kid
I love the North East so much, I’ve never moved more than a mile away from where I grew up. Been on plenty holidays, three or four a year, love going abroad but I love coming home as well. Within a two hour drive, you’ve got everything you need, weather permitting. Historic towns and cities, wonderful architecture, beautiful countryside and beaches, and the general warmth of the north east folk. I love it.
Love the lack of pretentiousness and necessity to ''keep up with the jones's '' that you find elsewhere
I got knocked owa at school & woke up in smoggy general last thing on my mind was the north east it was how the **** did I end up here lol
Roker and Seaburn. I absolutely love the coast. I'd give anything to take the dogs for a walk down there again.
Apart from the people who IMHO are the nicest, friendliest in the world... I miss walking around Durham, especially down by the river...stunning place. I haven't lived in the North East for many years now, this thread makes me proper home sick
When it happened to me I woke up on the side of the road and had no memory of what had happened. I was off to an engagement party so one my thoughts were “****, I’m going to miss a party with loads of lasses”.
Many memories, but the great food served in The Rajah (Cloth Market, Newcastle) and the taste of the coffee in The Gannet when it first opened are a couple that come to mind.
Bob's on end of life care. I don't think he's going to see the beach again. He absolutely loves the beach. I took him there for his birthday last month.
Lived in Seaham since we got married and the changes have been remarkable, the regeneration since the pits closed has transformed the place . From Seaham Hall to Noses Point their is so much to admire with the Tommy sculpture the highlight as well as the array of Restraunts,Bistros, and Cafes for the visitors that now visit the Town as it becomes more popular . So in my case it would have to be sunny Seaham by the sea .
