Born and bred in England... Grew up watching it.

Still having problems getting past the loading screen... I've updated directx, updated display drivers.... no joy at all so far.

I think Bernie just played a blinder... He got me to part with $50 to look at his bloody awful F1 logo.

2nd day with this game, got to say never played any of the earlier versions as have not been gaming for several years until three weeks ago when I got a ps3, the realism is stunning and I like the way you can gradually get in to the game on the time trials and by switching off the driver aids as you go. Brilliant!

Gordon Bennett.... I need a controller. I'm about 7 seconds off the pace using the keyboard in career mode.

    Sorry for the triple post.

Starting to get the hang of the keyboard now even if it does dish out instant RSI, but so far I'm bloody loving it. Got myself more in the .5 of a sec off the pace range than the 7secs I was shy earlier, although my hands now look like that birds from Needful Things.

Cracking stuff.. even though it took half a day to get the damn thing working. :)

Is it not possible to adjust the NPC strength?

So it works well driving without controller or wheel? hmm might just go and buy it. Or pirate it :p

I've gotta say I've been completely blown away by this game.

So many good things about it.

    1) I'm at Williams for my first season in career mode.
    2) They've kept the custom difficulty setting from last year. I found that with a couple of driving assits (automatic gears and medium traction control) I can hold my own against expert level AI.
    3) How realistically the car handles. Cold tyres and a green track is a nightmare. Love it.
    4) KERS and DRS.

Can anyone tell me how the handling of the car compares to 2010 ?

My issue with 2010 was the breaking distances which were practically twice as long as in real life. You had to brake in a straight line (couldn't trail brake - but dunno if possible in a real F1 car) and there was a limit that if missed you were off the track - period. Was hoping in 2011 that these limits would change depending on track/brake temperature etc or reward nerve so you could brake late beyond the normal limit and still recover but maybe at the expense of a flat spot or worn brakes later in the race.

Also anyone know how force feedback compares when using a wheel ?

    Cheers

Great game, my only complaint is the graphics. Last years graphics were better. Otherwise, it's 100 times better, the handling is better, wet races are terrifying etc.

I played it the other day using a joypad, seemed ok in that respect, but I've always been an early braker, slow in = fast out, and it's never a good idea to brake whilse turning, usually ends in a backwards trip to the barriers, apply the brakes when going straight and then turn to hit the apex. Seriously considering going out and buying a PS3, wheel and the game right now.

Six foot five, I'm guessing those settings mean you're using a pad?

The wet weather really is terrifying... total brown trousers stuff. Trailing another car is a nightmare when they break way earlier than you anticipate.

The cold tyres are also bloody scary. I was leading my second race in career mode until changing to primes... a few corners out on them, ran wide dropped to second and just couldn't get it back.

The one thing that has annoyed me so far is the instant penalties. I had to take avoiding action on an overtake, hit the grass, cut the corner and got a 10 second penalty despite giving the place back... *grumbles*

^^ I tried to avoid a 1st corner pile up by skipping the corner and didn't get the chance to give places back, insta disq, and I've been hit by drivers cutting chicanes and been BF'd for it due to the circumstances when contact was made, not for what happened .3 seconds before, when they cut the chicane, V annoying. Codemasters have always had a blindspot penalty wise, it tends to ignore whatever else is going on.

Im am hoping they will patch things like this, codemasters do listen to the fans on their website, though with 2010 they only released 1 patch so here hoping they fix it straight away.

One other thing that had me going "Huh?"... Webber T-boned me and lost his front wing, yet was still all over me and racing as if it was still there. Never pit for a new nose.

lols, racing the renault at Canada I was half a lap a way from victory, tyres were shot so i was backing them up at corners and accelerating late to keep them behind me and Webber got bored and just rammed me straight off at the last hairpin and stole victory.

Seems like Webber is the Hamilton of F1 2011... Maybe they'll patch that too. :p

realy recommend the use of a wheel - I use one for both the F1 and Gran Turismo and it adds to the simulation experience ten fold. Steering, working the pedals, up and down the sequential gear paddles - brilliant.
Also go for a force feedback if possible to feel the physics of the car moving against you whilst turning, the feel of the rumble strip, the grass if you've gone off - everything.

yes and you can also notice the vast diffrence is grip between the option and prime tyres in the game with the pirellis
i never felt that last year with the bridgestone's and most of the time in races of 20% or over i could set lap times faster on the primes than i could with the options because i usually used the harder tyre's later in the race with less fuel on board

I know the game has only recently come out, but has anyone attempted my challenge (see post #83 on this very thread for details if you wish to attempt it) yet? Not nagging or anything, I'm just very intersted in what the difference in straight out lap times/records between F1 2009 and F1 2011 is and if anyone can beat my records.

I'm quite a ways off those, but only just really starting out in career mode driving a Force India and still using the keyboard.

A bad workman blames his tools and all that... :p
