After news stories of people arriving at uk airports with no checks or controls it has been announced (?) that new arrivals will have to self quarantine for 2 weeks. Unlike Australia where on arrival you are taken to a place of isolation ( unused airport hotel ) in Britain you will be told to go home and stay in. Simon Calder on BBC news.

    Bit late now.

Is this person forgetting that this government set out all the health trusts, sold the best bits to the highest bidders, and funds the trusts.

2 weeks in quarantine should give them enough time to ripen, charge them for 2 weeks in a UK hotel, doubly good for the UK economy

My nephew flew home from Singapore at the end of March and was amazed at the total absence of checks at Manchester. Dominic Raab saying that medical advice has been against arrival checks because the risk of imported disease is insignificant - unbelievable.

Can't see why it hasn't been done from the start tbh
Pretty sure it must have spread by flights somewhere unless some poor bugger has walked from Wuhan to Glasgow !

80% of all of those tested last week in England have COVID 19.

That is based on a conversation I had an hour ago with someone who works in the NHS and is having to staff resources. He has to fulfil staff requests. The vast majority have no symptoms at all and only a very small percent have any.
He said the figures for this are two weeks behind. 80% of his team have COVID 19 and this means he has had to have military support. I asked how many he manages and he said it’s in the low hundreds.
I know what NHS trust he works In and the sector.

We were both doing an online dive theory course and he could only do today, as it’s his first day off for a month.

The only people who are getting tested in the NHS are those who are off because they suspect they have the virus, or are living with somebody who has or suspects they have the virus and therefore have to be off. Puts the statistic in context. The people who have been offered the test in other areas have to fulfil the same criteria.

That was the case at the start of the lockdown too. Anyone returning was instructed to self quarantine for two weeks.

Are n't just those with the symptoms the only ones able to be tested (or living with someone who is symptomatic)? No suprise huge surprise there? The majority of those will be off for a week and then returning, and highly likely to not get it again. Shame these tests didn't start earlier.
The cynic in me does wonder if the testing avaibility increased after the spike for a reason though.

His point seemed to be more of a focus on lack of symptoms and the effect on his section. He was actually apologetic about having to have the call on Sunday.

    Reality Check

Prof Stephen Powis, the national medical director for NHS England, has said there is a “hint” of a small increase in people driving during the lockdown.

The government statistics show that the use of transport has plummeted since the end of February. For instance, London bus usage has dropped by around 85%, while the use of the Tube and National Rail is down by 95%.

However, motor vehicle usage has been creeping up slowly - in the first week of the lockdown this was down 64% but is now only down 59%.

Similarly, visits to parks and grocery stores have also seen small upticks, according to the latest analysis from Google.

However, the Google data also shows a significant further decline in visits to workplaces.

i thought last week it was announced a short drive so as to allow a walk in the countryside was allowed.
Surely a 10 min drive then park up as long as there are no other cars is sensible?
If i go for a walk near my house there are people every 50 yards. Ive got a few spots within a 10 mins drive where i dont see anyone at all.
i suppose you have to counteract that with the risk of an accident during the drive.

I reckon decisions re relaxing lockdown are gonna be made on a national level which will be wrong for areas such as ours who will be 2 weeks behind.
    at least.

    edit
apologies if this has been touched on already cos i stopped reading this thread in full last week.
