Yeah, a lot of businesses seem to be making those calls, regardless of government policy. Presumably most are making those calls from necessity. So are a lot of self employed people.

My son, who has been locked up with me in my flat for a month now, is starting a small private job on Monday. Thank god he is, because he was going nuts. And the bloke he’s doing the job with has two kids and a mortgage, and is still waiting for money to come through from the government.

Yes, the government needs to take a lead, and yes people need to act responsibly, but there is a balance that needs to be found here.

I pointed out a valid reason for them reopening. Didn't mention any other retail outlet whatsoever.

Get called a thick **** by the forum moderator because he doesn't understand the point, he then makes a few vague statements about something i never said and does a thread flounce.

What's next, am I to get thread banned?

Someone in your circumstances should absolutely not be pressured to return to work prematurely.

But other people’s circumstances are different. We’re all trying to do what’s right for our communities and our families, or at least most of us are. There’s too much pointing the finger and blaming each other going on for my liking.

That post was nothing to do with DIY. I'm just saying that shops and restaurants will clearly reopen before we're allowed to see family members again.

If you're expecting it to be the other way round then I reckon you're gonna be disappointed.

They trust people to go to a DIY store where there will be complete strangers, yet they don't trust you to visit your family. I'm missing the logic in this clearly.

Who am I going to care about protecting more, my family or a stranger. Who could social distance better a family or a retail outlet full of strangers. The SKY reporter didn't make sense of it and nor do I. It's like someone saying to you, you can't see your lad but the DIY store down the road can open.

It sounds cold hearted but it's a sad fact that at some point in the not to distant future the question will have to be asked on whether the measures are causing more suffering than protection.

I now work for a global retailer, all of our stores worldwide have been closed (Japan were the last) and we have been getting by on our internet proposition, which is better than many of the competition. Stores in Germany are about to reopen. It has been ****ing brutal.

Look, I never referenced seeing families. Didn't mention it.

This seems to be your focus and if that's the problem, fair enough. I live with mine so haven't struggled.

I personally also don't need to go to *B&Q, but can absolutely see why people might want or need to.

Doesn't make me thick though dude, as you know fine well.

No, I did, after pointing out that your reason for them reopening wasn’t valid, so they’re no different to any other retail outlet.

I didn’t call you anything, so why are you aiming that at me?
