So DIY stores are only opening for essential repairs, and B&Q are staffing stores out of the goodness of their heart, yeah right.

Sorry but no. Your argument is that they need to reopen as having access to DIY stuff will help with peoples mental health. Only if you wanted to buy DIY materials from them, you can - on line, and pick them up at the store entrance.

So that argument doesn’t stack, and they’re no different to any other retail outlet. So are you alright with them all reopening then?

I didn't say that. Just pointing out that there could be a situation where a trip there is neccesary.

But going down to B&Q, parking in their huge car park, wandering round their huge store 2m apart, is exactly the same as nipping down the local offie.

We’ll have to fairly soon. We can’t keep the economy locked down forever, and we can’t keep people banged up in their homes forever.

There are more risks to be managed here than just the virus itself. As there is unlikely to be a vaccine for months yet, some sort of strategy that allows people to go about their business, while continuing to protect those most at risk, will have to be developed.

TBF the construction industry has fired back into action, not all firms are big firms who deal with Travis Perkins and Buildbase. Some will be shopping at Screwfix, B&Q, Wickes (never closed anyway) etc.

    No.

My argument wasn't that they need to.

My argument was that I can see no reason why they shouldn't. Which I've explained.

All you two have done is what you all do on here, use poetic licence to make **** up that I've not said.

    Bravo.

Yes, I understand that, but that call needs to come from Govt when deemed appropriate.

It seems that companies are starting to make their own calls now, and ignoring the lockdown that’s still in place for retail shops.

and everyone has managed that situation over the last 3 weeks of being closed. We also know they are not opening for essential repairs. The SKY reporter nailed it when she asked, why can DIY Stores open, but we can't see our families. Windy even summed it up in a nutshell, go to a DIY store to see your family. This has made a mockery of the rules. And Chief trying to lecture me on MH is just unreal <doh>

I haven’t used any poetic licence, I’ve merely challenged the reopening and the reason given.

So the one putting words in mouths here is you.

Again, where have I lectured you on anything?

    Quote please.

You still haven't answered the question by the way.

I don't get the family argument. Shops and restaurants will reopen far sooner than we'll be told households can mix.

Now I know I've been taking the piss but on a serious note ... my missus is petrified of restrictions being eased and me going back to work. She has no spleen and is 47. She's had her letter and it does put the wind up you. The prognosis is not good should she catch it. So the more people I mix with the more chance there is of me waltzing in and passing it to her.

Perhaps the biggest irony is that I haven't had a letter. Needed a quadruple bypass because of hereditary heart disease but the same GP practice as the missus, who authorise my repeat prescriptions for 5 different daily tablets, don't seem to think I'm vulnerable... or perhaps the mail merge print run ran out of inkjet <laugh>

Anyways ... I'd get food if we were running out ... but paint can wait <cheers>

I'm out of this debate, how DIY Stores are seen as a priority over family and MH issues just fooks me right off.

Yeah my mate can't wait to get back to work with only supply issues stopping him at the moment. He's probably about a month away from being homeless.

It's like how you felt, when you thought you might not be able to see your boy. That's affecting millions of people, yet.... DIY gets the K den.

That’s completely disingenuous. As what I asked, was why do they need to reopen the stores when you can still currently buy what you need from them on a click and collect basis.
