I was more of a Stones fan than the Beatles, but McCartney's Oh Darling, a song accredited to both Lennon and McCartney, but confirmed by Lennon as a McCartney only song, was an absolute cracker. The backing music took 29 takes and the rest of the song including back up singing of Lennon and Harrison took months to complete. Commenting on the lead vocals, the engineer Geoff Emerick said: "Every day we’d be treated to a hell of a performance as McCartney put his all into singing the song… with 50s-style tape echo… once and once only, nearly ripping his vocal cords to shreds in the process.” Ringo's lead is faultless. Together with Paul's brilliance, they smashed it.
On the Politics forum, Rudey mentioned he liked reggae, so who better to listen to than the wonderful Toots Hibbert and the Maytals doing one of their classics live. Brilliant stuff. Pressure Drop.
There are all manner of people who wear a Knighthood for sweet **** all. They've been born to rank. Others earn them though. One such person who deserves a Royal Mention is Captain "Tommy" Moore. Someone needs to do something fast, the man's a 100 years old ffs. I'm no royalist, but if a nation possesses such a structure, then surely a man of this type has done enough to deserve official recognition. Tens of millions raised through his walk, and now a chart topping hit, all for the greater good.
If you’ve got Netflix and haven’t seen it yet I can thoroughly recommend the Swedish series “Caliphate” - absolutely stunning so far (just finished episode 6) and one of the most intense, gripping dramas I have ever seen. Revolves around 2 young Swedish lasses who get indoctrinated into traveling to Syria to join the IS, and another one who is already there and married to a Jihadist. Gripping with a capital G.
Captain Tom is an absolute legend but man, that song is ****in dreadful Cyc. His crooning is of the Nicole ****zinger genre. There I've said it, I feel much better now.
I watched a super documentary today on Harold Feinstein called, The man who photographed New York. Brilliant photographer of people.
St Peter calls out "Dear Lord, we have people at the pearly gates waiting to come in". God replies, "They must wait a few minutes St Peter, Luciano is singing".
This masterpiece of an Electric Guitar has been reintroduced by Gretsch, and is their No.1 bestseller atm; the Gretsch Billy Bo G6199. See below. My doc. is an Electric Guitar expert (played in a fairly successful local rock band when he was very young, till he decided medicine was the best way for him to go!) He owns one or two very valuable Guitars, which of course he can play very well. He gives his services free in the mandatory medical tent at many rock concerts in the Summer months in Munich. A good guy. He was delighted to get a copy of Cyc's Bo Diddley video clip which I sent him, and said, and I quote: "Wonderful piece of music! Thank you. And crazy guitar as well. Funny enough ZZ Top's Bill Gibbons launched a re-issue and plays it quite often on stage. The BillyBo, isn't it beautiful?" ( Note from me: Mamma Mia, doc's a real enthusiast!) https://www.thomann.de/gb/gretsch_billy_bo_g6199.htm?ref=intl&shp=eyJjb3VudHJ5IjoiZ2IiLCJjdXJyZW5jeSI6IjQiLCJsYW5ndWFnZSI6ImVuIn0= Note the prices: £2,650/€2,999
