I went to the match on saturday and what a great game. Credit to you guys. You came with a plan and you weren't boring in the way you played and all credit to you for that. However I think you need to tighten up in your defence a little but I am sure that you will stay in the premier league. The torres goal was a great finish from him and I was chuffed to see him score. The second was a good counter attack from us and there wasn't much you couldhave done once the attack was in full flow. Then cam the sending offf which was a red card any day of the week... I was just a bit upset as he scores and then does something like that.. can't help but feel he is turning the corner though which is good. Then there was half time and the event which I thought was extremely important. It was announced about the tragic event that happened with regards to the deaths of the 4 welsh miners. What a tragic story and as it unfolded, it was horrible to see it get worse and worse. Both sets of supporters gave a standing ovation which hit the hearts of all the people in the stadium and it was good to see both clubs united at this moment. It makes you forget everything that goes on in the world and you just focus on this one incident. There were buckets outside the game as a collection for the fmailies and chelsea fc announced that they will match the amount collected to give to the families. In the second half you had a good go.. dyer hit the crossbar but then ramires got his second after a bit of luck. Then you scored your first away goal of the season and your support went crazy even at 3-1 down! Then drogba finished the game off with a great finish... Lastly credit to your supporters. They were extremely loud. I sit next to the away fans and I now have a great video of all 3200 swansea fans belting out 'land of my fathers' on my phone. You created a good atmosphere even when you were leaving the ground. Spoke to a few swansea fans and they were great to talk to... The england and wales banter was also great! Overall, a great game and even though you lost 4-1, you should stay up. I reckon wigan, blackburn and west brom will go down. I feel that after the match, it seems that our clubs seem closer together especially between the supporters. You are a great asset to have in the premier league and I hope you stay up. It is great to have a welsh club in the premier league no matter what many may say. All the best for the rest of the season lads and once again on behalf of all us chelsea supporters, we wish the families of the welsh miners well
Thanks very much for your kind words mate, I am sure that the gesture by your club and supporters will long be remembered by us the fans, and the families of those lost In terms of the defence you are right, but we've just lost two players in that position in caulker and tate, FIFA hasn't allowed two players to be signed on the last day of transfer deadline day, plus our captain who has just come back is still walking wounded. We have a couple on trial as we speak, we only have freebies allowed to sign so it limits us until January, by then our long term injured will be back in any case. Once again thanks, and best wishes for the season
Nice post and thanks, chelseaboi, your sentiments about the miners are much appreciated - puts football worries into context. I think we should be fine but if I was offered 17th place right now I'd snap it up. By and large we are a realistic lot down here. I think the feeling is that, if we can survive this first season, the experience would be invaluable and our footballing philosophy should see us ok for the second and subsequent seasons. We have a tough job but I think our lads can do it providing, as you say, we stiffen our defence asap. Good luck for your season and you would be doing us a great favour by flattening all those teams around us in the league!!
Don't worry... we will try to smash the teams around you! Im trecking up to bolton to see us play them and hopefully we are able to beat them which Imsure would help you guys out... Im hoping for a nice and easy 4-0!
Yeah it is unfortunate about the transfer situation mate but if you can last until january and then maybe a sign a couple of people to bring in to freshen the squad you'll be fine... You've got a great manager in brendan rogers... it was great to see him back at the bridge along with scott sinclair who is a great player on saturday..
chelseaboy, great post. The miners' collection won't be forgotten down here I can assure you. As for the game, Jager is right, we did miss Caulker and I really can't believe we'd have conceded 4 had he been playing but we would still have deservedly lost the game. Some on the boards were saying that Chelsea were not the team of old, the defence was past it etc. but most of us realise we're the new kids on the block and Chelsea still ooze class. Top 4 nailed on for me. Others - mainly from other clubs - have suggested that we need to 'play ugly' to win games but I'm not convinced. Anyone who has watched us this season can see that we do mix it up and occasionally employ the odd long ball to great effect. That's good enough for me. I'm right behind the Manager in keeping true to our principles. Using a reverse analogy it's difficult to make a sow's ear out of a silk purse.
It's a great thread and thanks for all your kind words. Only one word can be described to describe Chelsea, CLASS ! Everything about the club, players and fans. Collecting for the miners and the club matching it is fantastic. On the pitch class told and even though we gave it a go, the extra touch of class was the difference. Chelsea are a better team than us, no denying it and no shame in it. Frank Lampard, well I wonder what he made of the "you Jack bar steward" chant ! Could see him laughing and giving the thumbs up. I clearly saw him turn and clap our fans at the "Super Frankie Lampard" chant, the Chelsea fans were a bit bemused to say the least. Leaving the ground there were plenty of Chelsea and Swans fans leaning across the row of stewards shaking hands and having a laugh together. It's a pity some other clubs can't behave like that in defeat and as graciously as the Chelsea fans did in victory. Top club and for a good reason, nailed on top 4 no doubt about it.
