Imo the fans are over thinking everything, if you're looking on the outside in then its a done deal. People need to stop thinking about it and just let things progress. Not universally true I’m afraid (although what you state is a useful rule of thumb - and CC was wrong). Effect is a verb, with a different meaning to affect. Affect = alter, change Effect = achieve/cause. For example, we all hope that the Saudis will effect (v) change by taking over the club. We also hope that their efforts will have a positive effect (n), one that will affect (v) our final league position at the end of the year. (I’m short, if you’re going to correct other people, you’d better get it right!)
As effect isn't a noun, as it obviously isn't a name you're correct, but my reasoning is also correct, ie x affecting y has an effect. Double negatives are top of my pet hates, but this comes close. PS LOL YOU'RE SHORT
