Transfer Rumours So...... new manager debate?

I recognise that Rafa would have a head start on others but not sure that it’s such an advantage so as to ignore the others.

As Pouchy will no doubt vouch once he recovers from his Dad selling the Club and his supply of prawn sandwiches coming to an end I was one of Rafa’s “fanboys” when he was here. I would however prefer a manager with a more attacking style a la “Roy of the Rovers” aka Kevin Keegan style. The most enjoyable time supporting NUFC came when KK was manager first time round and we had a few years of the Entertainers.

I would honestly love to see us win something and I have no doubt we would play a less defensive style than Rafa’s first time here if he was re-appointed but I doubt whether any new Rafa team would be the Entertainers Mark II. If it was a question of winning something but doing it in a methodical “modern” style or not winning something but watching for many years the Entertainers Mark II, then I would genuinely watch the latter in preference to the former.

For that reason I would look to one of the younger managers advocating an attacking with flair style as the next manager but with someone like Rafa in the background sorting out the footballing infrastructures.

 

I don't see much point in bringing some young gun manager to a club that has been so badly underinvested in, there is three years of work needed at least, 13 years of Ashley have left such a mess that we need someone who can change that over a period and it needs real maturity to do this along with an understanding of the fan base, Rafa is the perfect bandaid for the next 3 years, if he does better than expected then 5 years but give him time and he can build the foundations for the next 30 years.

 

Very good different perspective. I think rafa under different circumstances would be totally different to first time round and I'd be more than happy to see him back. Was never a fan of his style of play but he did a reasonable job albeit awful to watch with the resources he had.

He definitely has unfinished business here and he's more than earned the opportunity to continue with his vision for the cloob.

 

IF this becomes real then my first choice is split between Rafa and Poch (honestly don't know enough about Allegri to have a strong opinion). I'd prefer it to be Poch but either would be a statement of intent by new owners they were looking to invest. Sticking with Bruce - who hasn't done anything wrong with us - would sent out a big signal that these people may not be investing in the manner some are speculating.

 

Don't get the Rafa love in,if nobody in Europe wanted him last year why would Newcastle? I'd go for Poch,Santo or Bielsa.

 

Largely depends on timing and approach for me. We are so far back now in so many aspects, there is a lot of work to be done for the immediate and the longevity of ongoing success. If we look at Man City as the example they hoovered up a lot of top domestic talent first, got Mancini a year in, delivered a marquee intent signing in Robinho. The optics will be important. The functional guidance of Rafa might appeal. Personally though I’ve had enough defensive football to last me a lifetime. Even at Liverpool, Inter, Napoli - it’s defence first interspersed with individual talent.

I’d like a more modern high press style. Pochettino would be a steady pair of hands. Bielsa would do wonders for long term but he can be abrasive. Another Bielsa disciple would be my choice - Marcelo Gallardo. Most successful coach in River Plates history. Delivered on big stage and is now on shortlist of Europe’s elite. Not sure if the Saudis would take such a risk though. That might be more a second manager type appointment.

If this happens you probably don’t really have to worry regardless, with the financial strength they’ll just get it right one way or other.

Top choice for me would be Nagelsman. The last coach to come from the top of the Bundesliga has done ok. He’s also more of that project type of coach, very modern style.

Rafa or Poch would be safe hands.

 

Guillem Balague reckons Poch isn't interested in a "project". So we may find that Rafa does return, because at the very least he understands all the structure that needs to be put in place.

 

He had a lot of offers in Europe. Inc. Arsenal and Spurs.

 

Yeah and apparently Allegri isn't interested either, he wants a top 3 club.

I think Pocc is waiting for the Man Utd job whenever it comes up and Allegri will be at PSG.

 

Well whoever comes in has to be up for rebuilding the club literally from scratch. We need someone who will work all the hours.

 

Yeah he shot Everton and Arsenal down live on TV. Apparently he had agents at West Ham and then decided against it. If rumours are true that he's been in contact with Staveley for several months, chances are he's been holding out for us.

He had offers in Spain, Turkey and Italy as well.

 

Any inside info from your dad on who they will be bringing in once he is gone?

 

No he just said he has said he is happy to have guided us through a difficult period in our history when no one wanted us except charlatans and chancers, waiting for the right buyers who can truly make the club what he thinks it should be. He says he feels vindicated and the fans really owe him a great deal of gratitude.
