What utter bullshit! You'd think Trump invented social distancing from that!

**** me that’s ridiculous! If there’s one thing that even his most ardent admirers would concede I think it’s that our Donald ‘doesn’t do detail’.

    This from the BBC website:-

"The Government website set up for key workers to book coronavirus tests has stopped accepting new applications, just hours after it opened.

The site, which allows all key workers to book a test at drive-through centre or request a home kit if they have Covid-19 symptoms, opened on Friday morning but had stopped accepting application by around 10.30am.

Earlier, at around 9am, the Government had posted an update to say that there were no home kit tests available today. "

There was only a limited number of home testing kits available today and they always knew they'd run out this morning, though they expected to run out about 10.30, not 8.30 (people can order five tests each, for them and their family members and it looks like everyone's ordering five, however many they need).

Tens of thousands of bookings were arranged before they shut it apparently...

A government source said the website hadn't crashed and the temporary closure was "a positive" as it showed that there was huge demand for COVID-19 tests. It is understood online applications were closed to make sure the volumes are manageable and those tests already booked in can be fulfilled. The source added it showed why increasing capacity for testing was so important.

In a statement, RB said since the US president's remarks it had been asked if "internal administration of disinfectants" could be used to treat coronavirus patients...

"As a global leader in health and hygiene products, we must be clear that under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body (through injection, ingestion or any other route).

"As with all products, our disinfectant and hygiene products should only be used as intended and in line with usage guidelines. Please read the label and safety information."

Fancy needing to issue a statement on something so ridiculous. <doh>

I afraid I think I may have inadvertantly given you a bit of a bum steer when I suggested that approach John.
When it tried to get onto the VPN I use, I noticed 'iPlayer' wasn't showing on the top line of the BBC page.
I typed a program into the search box as I mentioned & it came up ok. Coincidentally I had been tampering with different IPs used by my VPN, so I must have literally at the same time (or milliseconds apart) moved from a "banned" IP address to one of their IP addresses that the BBC hadn't spotted & bannned yet ?
Sorry for getting your hopes up John. Good luck with finding a solution.

Of course, the simplest solution would be for the BBC to allow VPNs to access their broadcasts from foreign countries.
Hell, I'd willingly pay some or all of the UK TV licence fee to have solid continuous live & archived programming access, plus a subscription to the VPN provider.
There are enough ex-pats around the world to give the BBC etc an extra decent revenue stream I would have thought!

Tom Hanks got a get well soon letter, from an eight year old kid in Australia, after he was diagnosed with COVID-19 there recently. The kid's called Corona De Vries and was being bullied by kids calling him Coronavirus, so he sent him this letter, along with a Corona brand typewriter...

No worries, this seems to have mainly been a problem since this virus pandemic started. I assume, after reading your original message, it said that the likes of the BBC noticed that a larger number of people using a particular IP address flags that up as being a VNP so they block it. I believe they do change the IP address daily, so it is a bit of a hit and miss whether on any particular day one is working.

I think this is a problem we have to live with until this lockdown situation stops, then not so many people will be using these VPN's, so hopefully, it will get easier.

Trump made bizarre statements about getting light inside people to help kill the virus. Well, this may not be as left-field as first thought - there is an experimental approach going on in the US to investigate light therapy for dementia/Alzheimers, as there is a theory it acts to destroy the excessive proteins in the brain caused by the disease.

Given that he shows many symptoms of neurological impairment, and there have been photos of him recently with odd wires and patches on his scalp (not wig tape), its not too much of a leap to think that he's been treated with light therapy for his problems, and that's why he mentioned it yesterday.

The man needs certifying, he's a danger to others.

I see Reckitt's makers of Dettol have had to issue a warning FFS.

At some point, the government has to ignore the loud online crowd of **** the beds and make a long term, rational decision. It's not a matter of potentially saving future deaths. Data specifically shows that for every point contraction of the economy, the death rate increases at a greater level than the virus is currently killing. As it stands, the estimates are showing that over 50% of deaths are in care homes and of the remaining deaths, over 90% are in the medically vulnerable. These people should be isolated and 'furloughed' from every day life and the rest of us to get on with it. The hospital capacity can cover the rest.
