Isn't this is the version they had to cut for top of the pops. With the BBC musicians. Which they hated.

Here's a conundrum. A friend of mine is a teacher. Sadly she was diagnosed with breast cancer in January. Went off work and long-term sickness kicked in 6 months full-pay then 6 months half pay then state benefits.

In March she's one of the last patients to have surgery just as all resources are diverted to Coronavirus. She's told she will also need chemo and radiotherapy BUT because of the coronavirus there's no guarantee of when.

So now she's waiting. She's the main breadwinner in the house. So now she's worrying about the 6 months half pay coming up.

No idea when she'll have the chemo. The weird thing is, being diagnosed with cancer, had she got the 12 week isolation letter and used that in the first place, she'd be off work full pay and wouldn't need the company sick pay until after that period had expired. Being diagnosed with cancer is harrowing enough, but thr timing has not been kind to her either.

So I'm thinking, get the 12 week letter from the GP and ask her work if she can now be taken off the sickness policy? The problem is the school is a company sponsored academy so fck knows their policy terms and conditions... or how unethical they might be about it. I know of academies being utter ****s to staff during this time.

The fcked up thing is, if they won't play ball, she could return to work for a few days so the sickness benefit resets to zero again. Then go off work sick again when she gets a date for her chemo and restart the 6 months full pay then.. But that means going in while she's still not been fully treated, in trauma and on top of that the clear risk of catching the virus.

Talking to her about it, it was like a fcking maze. I've probably not even mentioned all of it.

Now assume someone doesn't have any company benefits. They've gone off sick having been diagnosed with a serious illness. They're on statutory sick pay. Coronavirus breaks out. They get the 12 week isolation letter. Would would have to stay home anyway. So would they then go on full pay? After all someone who is well but gets the 12 week isolation would.

The 12 week isolation letter doesn’t guarantee full pay during that period mate. So unfortunately she’s at the mercy of someone who needs to review her case and make the decision to extend her full pay sick period at the school / local authority, given the circumstances.
