That's the problem, they ARE incompetent liars. Competent liars don't get found out. These people do.
Australia have only had four cases in the last 24 hours and are hoping to get back to normal in a few weeks. I don't know if it's the heat or lower population density that's helped them or what but good news anyway.
Certainly not the heat as we're cooling down and about to head into flu season. I'd say it's more to do with population density and the distance between major towns. The majority of the people have been quite good in respect to social distancing particularly here in South Australia. The concern is how many of the 20-31 age group are potentially asymptomatic carriers.
Still about ten degrees warmer there than it has been here so it might have something to do with it, although it probably is more to do with population density.
Most states closed their borders (all but the A.C.T) for all but non essential travel. All travelling across state borders (ie, those returning home after quarantine have to isolate/quarantine for a further 14 days) All returning home from overseas have to quarantine in a hotel at their point of entry for 14 days (transported there by the authorities and then basically locked in their room) Different states have different social distancing rules. For example in Victoria gatherings are restricted to 2 people if not from the same household whereas in South Australia it's 10. Overall they've done it quite well except for the New South Walses state government who allowed hundreds off the Ruby Princess cruise ship without testing them and approximately 10% of the national cases are as a result of a direct contact with an infected passesnger.

We keep being fed these 'good news stories' that, it seems, we're all supposed to applaud. "A company has researched, invented and built a new kind of ventilator in a fortnight." "Oxford University has found a vaccine, in an hour and a half, that would normally take 5 years". "A bunch of WI Doris's are producing scrubs for a fraction of the normal cost." I just think wtf ... ... if we're so clever why don't we think of these things before we get into such a mess.
This is why I am interested in what the recommendations of the exercises (Cygnus) were. If for instance they said we should keep a high level of PPE in stock (but then we runs stocks down, to save costs.) or it said in the face of a Pandemic we would have to be able to manufacture PPE ourselves, as any pandemic might lead to a shortage, if we tried to source them overseas (but we went ahead anyway and bought from overseas cos of marginal cost savings) then the govt is culpable. Nobody could come up with a vaccine or therapeutics for many virus that quickly. However some other countries did lockdown immediately (no rubbish about herd immunity) and closed borders, had testing and contract tracing up and running very quickly. Again if this was the recommendations (it is likely to be judging from some other countries) the govt is culpable. PPE and testing still not sufficient and according to the FT death toll due to coronavirus is 40,000+ already. Care homes...(my mum is in one in Jarrow atm), the policy seems to be to solve the cost of social care for the elderly, let them die! All we can do is stay in lockdown for a while yet...lets hope the catch up by govt of testing and ppe is achieved soon.
I'll have to 'muddy the water's' here, as the 'teller' is my age and about to retire, but I was told a very interesting story this weekend. A Sunderland lad I used to travel, from Mansfield, with in the 70s/80s now works in management for a large general hospital. They ran desperately short of 'one use' gloves so he found a local supplier and ordered a small amount until the official consignment arrived. When they arrived the lad who runs the storeroom rang and asked him to pop down. When he got to the stores the lad showed him the delivery note which was almost identical to the official deliveries. The delivery driver was also the same fella who usually delivers the authorised supplies of PPE. When my mate checked the actual cost, of each pair of gloves, he found his 'emergency delivery' was a third cheaper. He found this strange as the official procurement is organised by a highly paid mamager who negotiates bulk purchases for the entire East Midlands. When he did a bit of digging he found the local supplier only usually delivers goods on behalf of large national company which has a ex-government minister's wife listed on their board of directors In a nutshell, as he says, something stinks.
Nothing surprising that large govt purchases are subject to fraud and people on the take. The defense industry is probably even worse..
Coronavirus: First patients injected in UK vaccine trial https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52394485 The first human trial in Europe of a coronavirus vaccine has begun in Oxford. Two volunteers were injected, the first of more than 800 people recruited for the study. Half will receive the Covid-19 vaccine, and half a control vaccine which protects against meningitis but not coronavirus. The design of the trial means volunteers will not know which vaccine they are getting, though doctors will. Elisa Granato, one of the two who received the jab, told the BBC: "I'm a scientist, so I wanted to try to support the scientific process wherever I can." The vaccine was developed in under three months by a team at Oxford University. Sarah Gilbert, professor of vaccinology at the Jenner Institute, led the pre-clinical research. "Personally I have a high degree of confidence in this vaccine," she said. "Of course, we have to test it and get data from humans. We have to demonstrate it actually works and stops people getting infected with coronavirus before using the vaccine in the wider population." Prof Gilbert previously said she was "80% confident" the vaccine would work, but now prefers not to put a figure on it, saying simply she is "very optimistic" about its chances.
I really wonder when will we hit rock bottom are we there or are we going further when will we turn the corner and if we do do we really want that s hite in the premiership again because I still believe it’s f ucking awful I will love the day the premiership implodes and disappears for ever. Think I stuck this on the wrong thread
