Do you remember the days when almost everyone got paid on a Friday and it was in cash in a pay packet? I used to do pay in the RN and it was a bit of a giggle for me because I was the one behind a desk calling out the names and ticking them off. It would go........Able Seaman Smith. He would march forward, call out his Service number, salute and get money thrust in his hand after I'd told him how much he was getting. There was always the Chief Policeman known as a Master-at-Arms in attendance who virtually always said "HAIR CUT SMITH" and scribbled his name down on his piece of paper. Fancy having to make people queue up these days. Mind you most of them only got a few quid anyway. Pay was god awful in the Services then. But were we happy....................not really but you signed your life away then and could only leave if they said you could and you bought yourself out. Otherwise it was 12 years minimum. My first payment for the first 2 weeks of my career was £5. At 16 I thought that was brilliant.

Anybody seen the the three You Tube videos, with the players watched no3 last Alan Parry obvisouly does not think much of the Colchester mamager from way back when. No 3 is the best yet with Phil Catchpole, Bill Turnbull & Alan Parry, you can tell the three of them are used to broadcasting.

Today, just for a change I painted a fence. Not my fence but the neighbours fence. Him with the cat which sat in his garden and watched me intently throughout. It was my penance for the camper van incident. I decided he was a nice bloke really as he had offered to get me stuff from the shops if I needed it. The irony is he said he felt guilty letting me paint the fence for him. Little did he know my reasoning. Anyway it was the side of the fence that I have to look at so there was a benefit. Several of the other neighbours passed whilst I was doing my good deed and commented that I was indeed doing a good thing apparently. The only one who didn't comment was the Cornish twat who is still sulking over the jam and cream incident. I'm not painting his fecking fence that's for sure.

Would have been the last game of the season today at home for once. We might have been going up and even as champions on a good day. Home Park would have been swinging from the trees. I would have been p**sed by now no doubt either drowning the sorrows or in raptures. The virus has ruined my year so far and it hasn't even killed Boris or Donald yet. It can't get anything right can it.

I had a lovely day in the back garden yesterday listening to music all day and later on yet another bbq.my 87 year old neighbour's daughter came and checked on her and I got chatting over the fence she was moaning about no garden centres open she usually grows tomatoes and runner beans and peppers but hasn't been able to get any this year so I showed her all my plants growing nicely she was happy as Larry when I said she can have some ,but she really wanted spuds as well so I said don't worry I have 6 lots on the go you can have 1 of them as well.im trying growing raspberries this year never done them before so I'll have to wait and see how they turn out. Keep safe everyone and enjoy this beautiful weather while you can <cheers>
