So delivery of first round of EU equipment will arrive “within days or a maximum of two weeks ” according to the start of that article.

It later says: “The EU procurement scheme has not been entirely successful, however. While deliveries of masks, gowns and gloves will be made in tranches over the next two to 18 weeks, the procurement of ventilators will be slow, according to a leaked EU document.

“Companies indicated long delivery times, from 10 to 52 weeks,”

So this might all be over before any EU supplies arrive but prioritising spending time sourcing PPE right now was the wrong decision? I get why people think we should have been involved in this but it’s hardly been a success has it, and if the government had focused on this and not got PPE sorted because of it they’d get slated for that instead.

On a side note I’m sure those who savaged the government because on order from turkey was a day late equally will think the eu incompetent due to “The EU’s procurement of 28 February initially failed due to a lack of interest from suppliers”. (Or maybe everyone is just struggling to do their best, but you know Tory scum and all that jazz).

The desperation to blame the government and look only at the negatives is sad tbh. Everyone is making mistakes through this whilst trying to do their best and after we need to look at what needs to be in place to avoid the same mistakes being made. I just don’t understand the constant need to rage and look for who’s at fault...

    I expect he's a much higher rank than a squaddie mate <whistle>

Not sure we can blame the forces for anything, they are just doing what they can like all front line workers.

This is clearly a false argument.
If this government can't achieve more than one contract for PPE at a time then there is something seriously wrong.

We’ve had multiple contracts for PPE and about 8000 offers being worked through from British businesses. That all takes time and there has to be a list of priority in regards to what gets looked at first.

Like I said, I understand why people think we should have been part of the EU scheme, but the reality is it wouldn’t have helped at all so far and with the dates being given for delivery there’s a good chance it wouldn't have been of any use fullstop.

But obviously it’s a good stick to beat the government with so people are all over it rather than just questioning if it’s something we should have done (just to clarify I’m not saying it isn’t).

Most people can manage long term and short term planning.

I simply don't buy the argument that this wasn't done because of other priorities. Not even the government have made that claim. Either it was a choice or a miscommunication. Take your pick.

You do know they had a simulation of this kinda outbreak in 2016..... Twas called cygnus ..... We should always be ready and them in parliament would know it.

The world leaders would also have discussed outbreaks and would have a plan in place.

Myself thinks they didn't really give a fk and spent the money on weapons instead
