    this is the official line

The umbrella NHS organisation supports more than 140 member health service charities, which are typically linked to specific hospitals or NHS trusts.

The funds donated to NHS Charities Together are then shared out to different charities to use at a local level, which is where the millions will be spent.

Donations since COVID-19 hit the UK have been used to help set up wellbeing spaces in hospitals.

These include sleep pods, reclining chairs and so-called "wobble rooms" - areas where staff have a safe space to release emotions after a traumatic experience, such as losing a patient.

As well as this, things such as wellbeing packs are being created which include everyday items such as porridge, tea or hand cream, and these are given to the hardworking staff.

The money will also go towards electronic tablets such as iPads which will allow patients who are in isolation in hospital to have contact with their friends and family.

It'll help provide mental health support for NHS staff and volunteer who deal with the traumatic effect of the pandemic and be used to plan how patients can leave the hospital quicker and safely.

Chairman of the organisation Ian Lush said: "It's extraordinary to see the amount of money and the outpouring of goodwill towards the NHS and towards all the NHS charities, who will take good care with the money that he's raising."

PMQ, it wouldn't matter who was answering, just the same recital of ramp ups, whatever it takes and maybe even a few strong and stables.

Working but probably wouldn’t have watched it anyway. Twitter folk were excited as apparently Starmzy did well.

Thanks for that, Daily Hate, Daily Gammon and all your hick readers. I guess NHS staff can waft the virus away with blue passports.*

Hopefully when we come out of this **** people will remember what the NHS and its staff did for this country. Personally I think NHS staff should already have tax exemptions and all of them should be paid a massive ****ing bonus so they can pay down their mortgages or go on holiday etc. I don't buy the bullshit that the country can't afford it, the government are finding the money to pay millions of people to stay at home and not work. Tax the hedge funds who are making a fortune out of the market volatility. That **** Crispin Odey could chuck in £50million and he wouldn't miss it.

I don't know how practical it would be to support and reward all the NHS staff and I'm sure some ****s would find a way to cheat the system but all those people currently working their arses off to help the country get through this deserve that and much more.

So anyway, Sweden, right. Bars and restaurants still open. Gatherings of up to 50 people still allowed.

    16000 confirmed cases.
    1937 deaths.
    Population approx 10,500,000

Difficult to find any balanced or impartial coverage in the English speaking media, and as I’m not a statistician I’d be unable to extrapolate much from those figures. But the consensus in Sweden appears to be that they are handling this as well as anyone else is.

Just thought I’d put that out there. I don’t really have a view on it myself.

^^^ So okay, Sweden has approximately double the population of Norway.
Bit more than double the number of confirmed cases (16,000 vs 7,241).
A lot more deaths though. Norway only has 182, Sweden has nearly 2,000. Gulp.

all 1500000 of them . As per my reply to Tel what about all carers i mean after all quite a few staff in care homes have left their family homes and moved into their rest/care home with much less protection than the frontline NHS staff .

Yeah, them too. How many people are the government currently funding through the furlough scheme? They can always find the money when they really want to.

As I said, taxing the very wealthy and the companies making massive profits from this is an option but, unfortunately it's not something they would ever do.

    I'm wondering if it comes down to land mass versus population, by that I mean social distancing;

You state Sweden is 10.5M - I found they have a land mass of 450,295 km²

I don't think there would be too much dispute our population is 70M with a land mass of 242,495 km² (UK).

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_European_countries_by_area

To add to the above, the population of Stockholm is 974,073 (2019) - I'm sure I don't need to tell you the population of London <ok>

and yes, I did know Sweden didn't lockdown either.
