I know, its the best in the world. Finishing above them in the league lasts all summer though and proves your the better team, not if you get lucky in one game like the jammy bastards did this season. If we don't finish above them this season it will be a disaster, lets hope we turn them over at their place and finish well above them in the league.
Derby day is my least favourite day of the year. I hate it. I absolutely despise it. Because it is the most important. No genuine Sunderland fan will say with total honesty that taking a 5-1 defeat and a 1-1 draw, and finishing 1 point higher than NUFC every year, is satisfactory. I know from speaking with level headed mackems that they would all gladly swap places and enjoy the taste of derby victory. It defines the season. It either means you leave with a bitter taste in the mouth or with a sweet taste in the mouth. Already, wherever we finish this season (apart from being relegated) I will be able to look back on August the 20th with a huge grin on my face. The derby is not the be all and end all, but my gosh it is huge! When you beat us last, I felt crappy for weeks. Every true fan will tell you the same, the derby has huge importance! On another note, IMO you have failed in derbies under Bruce because of his own mentality. He is so obsessed with us (more so than your own club) that he gives all the talk like "what song he will play" when you beat us, then when the day finally comes around, he is so scared of defeat that he plays for the draw. This tactic seldom works in a derby game, and that is why we turn you over. Just my own, long-winded opinion though.
Bitter comments like this prove my point I believe. Refusal to accept that Newcastle fully deserved the win. We scored 2 perfectly legitimate goals, you scored none. That's not luck. That's down to our players being better than yours on the day. And no matter what is said, most mackems will not come to terms with that, proving how important the derby is in the sub-conscious mind...
League position and where we finish shouldn't even come into the equation. The derby at this present time is far and away the most important fixture for me. I can just about take losing if we put up a good showing, I will still be gutted but if they tried their best so be it. To capitulate and roll over and play dead and get beat, gutted wouldn't even come close. (AND DIDN'T HORRORWEEN!) When I hear supporters say it's just another game, worries me greatly. And I get accused of being a bad supporter for not backing Bruce!!!
These 2 are linked for me though. He is a mag supporter since early childhood (his own words not mine); he has turned out 2 of the worst performances seen by a Sunderland team in living memory, not just once or twice but 3 times and not to the best mag team we have faced over those years either. He bottled and blew the games and to me, doest give a ****e either about the consequences for Sunderland fans. After all, he woke up the next day as the supporter of a team that actually won the derby, just unfortunately for us, not the one he actually manages. I'd sack him for other things too but these 2 things in particular. You also say a new ,man would probably not change those fortunes? Why not? Did Reid not? Did Keano not? Bruce is one them kidda not one of us and as long as he remains manager, you can forget taking anything but pain and humiliation out of the derby games. Thats a depressing thought and one I simply cant live with or excuse. He has to go and as quickly as possible for me.
Bruce trying too hard to win the derbies, not a viewpoint that will shared by some posters on this thread Cheik but I agree with you. We finished above you last season and were **** in the derbies, finishing above you is all I have concerning last season so I am holding onto it. Of course if we beat you twice in a season and you finished 1 point above us I would say I didn't care, we all change out stance depending on the circumstances. Sunderland, the North Easts top premiership team 3 years in a row, it does have a nice ring about it you must admit.
I support Sunderland mate, if your looking for compliments on your wonderful team and how well you played your on the wrong board.
MR - up here in the NE, with one trophy in 40 years between the 2 clubs and the prospects of another coming anytime soon a mere pipe dream for both clubs, the derbies are the only thing we play for each year and any supporter who says otherwise is lying. Simple as. You are not wrong to castigate Bruce for his poor or even no shows in the 3 he has presided over so far. I dont deny the mags fully deserved the 5-1 and I cant complain about the loss this year either but had we shown any kind of fight, spirit or desire and ambition in any of these games then I could take it much better. Bruce has simply sent out teams that have bent over and asked the mags to take us up the arse 3 times, which to their credit they have most certainly done all 3 times in the last 12 months. Did Reidy ever do that? Did Keane? Did Mick Mac even do that with his 10 bob team? The answer of course is no. Bruce has failed and will continue to fail in the most important fixture in the region for both sets of fans. If the daft Geordie twat cant see that then he should be horse whipped out of town immediately imo. My biggest disappointment though, is that Quinny cant seem to see it either and he should know more than anyone at the club today how much those 2 SJP wins he played in meant to us all.
Whether you're a Newcastle or sunderland fan, imo there are two clear goals for the season: Finish as high as possible Beat your rivals in the derbys I think when the derbys arrive the whole table is pushed to one side. In those 90 minutes its all about the two teams and claiming victory there and then. That's just how it feels to me.
Not trying to wind you up Cest but if we beat them at Sid James will you accept you may have made a wrong call. Not on him being the right manager for the club, that will depend on our league position, but on him losing the derbies on purpose. What I mean by that is if we were sitting 6th say and we lost it would be crazy to sack him. If we were sitting 13th-14th I would say he had blown it and he had to go with the derby defeat being the final straw.
This! If player has had a shocker all season. But can produce just one moment of magic in a Derby game. Then they are forgiven instantly. Whereby, on the other hand...a player can have had a season of fantastic proportions. But one minor mistake on derby day, can result in that player become the pantomine villan. There is nothing quite like derby day. And no other fans can produce a derby quite the like Newcastle and Sunderland fans. Fair enough, we dont have flares, banners, and bloody poznans. But, no other derby imo can match the Tyne - Wear for passion.
To be quite honest, I have forgotten what the feeling of derby victory taste like these days and with the useless fat geordie boy as our inglorious leader, that is a taste I fear I wont be having again for some time. Mores the pity eh?
Wease -you paint a great scenario there but its based in what exactly? Beat them at SJP? Bruce cant even get us up for the 2 home games mate and lets not talk about the last time the fat uselss twat led the team out over there. Its no great thing to believe but in March, if we are even on their shirt tails in the league I'll be amazed, let alone beat them on their own ground and go above them. I cant see us being anywhere near the top 10 this season and we will lose both derby games imo. I sincerely hope Bruce isnt in charge come March but my gut tells me he will limp along in the league just enough to see out one last final hurrah for his beloved b&w's, as our losing manager again of course. I dont think he could win a derby game where we started 1-0 up and they had 10 men.
Thats a whole religious thing though aint it. Its more than just football with them. No, for me...nothing quite compares to the Tyne/Wear
I know its a long shot but hypotheticaly speaking. You would have to admit he did not lose the others on purpose. You could still say he lost because he is a **** manager but not that he threw the games. I actually think we are going to have a decent season and its going to be totally down to a good defence. We are going to struggle scoring goals unless bentleg surprises us be we are going to be solid at the back with Brown and O'Shea strutting their stuff.
Agree with this. However, I was at a Spurs - Arsenal game once and the intensity of the atmosphere did surprise me.
