I don't think the government controls the day to day running of the NHS. There are many bosses, chiefs, managers who do that.

The figure you posted was the official number of registered deaths from care house where COVID-19 was considered a contributing factor. It was a cast iron number, it may not have included everyone, it may have counted people who actually died of something else, but it was a recorded number, not an estimate.

The Center For Disease Control has issued new guidelines for doctors filling out death certificates, they are now instructed to list COVID-19 as the cause of death, even if it is just a suspected contributing factor and has not actually been diagnosed. It's not supposed to be counted in the ONS figures, unless it was considered to be the main cause of death, but god only knows how they're deciding what to include and what to leave out.

I've got a mate on Facebook who spent weeks slating the government for not having billions of pieces of PPE in stock, on the off-chance we had a pandemic, as it was apparently 'obvious it would happen one day'.

Today, he's slating the government for wasting millions building the Nightingale, as it looks like we're not going to need the extra capacity.

The irony seems completely lost on him.

I wonder if this Turkish Commercial organisation have done a runner with the UK money.. Seems the Turkish government have had to step in trying to find other commercial enterprises to make top the shortfall..

    Muppet.

if I were in charge, I’d be planning for the Nightingale hospitals to end up being the default location for COVID cases, like the old isolation hospitals, and then work to open up the NHS for everything else.

That would seem a fairly sensible option.

Boris isn't responsible for organising transport to make sure the right amount of stock is available at each hospital - that's the NHS logistics team as the article states

I know some people want to blame the Government for everything - a good example is that lefty dehead Dr Rachel Clarke who blames the Govt for ppe but credits the NHS for securing enough ventilators - some people just cant help themselves at the moment - theres lessons to be learnt from all sides, from failings in Government to failings in the NHS

To be honest when people say ‘NHS’ they often mean or hear very different things
    NHS England
    NHS Improvement
    NHS Trusts
    NGS CCGs
    NHS Providers
    NHS Property Services
    & many many more.
However I suspect the one being described as being a problem is likely to be NHS Supply Chain as that manages the sourcing, delivery and supply of healthcare products, services and food for NHS trusts

Dig a little deeper though and you’ll find it is a Limited Company. Supply Chain Coordination Limited (SCCL) which is wholly owned by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care,

Therefore if that is the problem area (?) then that responsibility lays squarely with the Govt not the ‘NHS’ as most of us know it

You can't just make a footballer redundant, not unless you can prove that your football club no longer needs footballers. Footballers don't have normal contracts of employment, they have contracts that entitle them to get paid, whatever happens, it even includes getting paid if the football club they play for goes bust.

Not wholly owned, majority owned, there are actually eleven directors, a few accountants, a civil servant, a CEO, a Chairman and even the Chief Operating Officer for the Post Office. They're based at Skipton House, London SE1, which also happens to be the head office for NHS England, so you'd think they'd have a decent idea of what each other were doing.
