The Duran Duran fans have turned up I see. Time to make a cuppa and think about that missing chocolate digestive.
You’ll never be a gangsta Piskie. You’re a white hippy pushing 50 who lives in Cornwall. It’s not exactly the Projects....
Maybe they opened it up to a white audience. Certainly have **** all to do with the biggest rap artists making it. It’s insulting. He will be telling us if it wasn’t for vanilla ice we wouldn’t have Eminem.
I’m not disputing what they achieved but in my opinion they have **** all to do with the emergence of the music. More to do with getting white Americans listening to the genre.
Calling BS. They were as important to Def Jam as PE were. And PE brought hip hop to white middle class kids bedrooms.
I'm not saying they were responsible for the emergence, that was Kool Herc and Sugar Hill etc. But what the Beastie Boys did, along with PE, LL, Jungle Brothers etc was take it from the underground and brought the attention of the world to hip hop.
I’d say the reverse. White kids doing hip hop made it acceptable for white kids to listen to. I happened to like beastie boys. I bought their first lp. What was it ? No sleep til Brooklyn? Remember playing it for my granny to listen too. From that point I started listening to the like of run dmc and public enemy. So you do have a point but I just don’t agree that they are pioneers of a genre they just made it acceptable to a white audience. I remember buying de la soul 3 ft high and rising and trying to scratch it on my record player.
Just to be clear, PE is referring to Private Equity, right? Presumably some private equity group seed funded the start of hip hop? 4 real.
Though I'm not the first king of controversy I am the worst thing since Elvis Presley To do black music so selfishly And use it to get myself wealthy Hey, there's a concept that works Twenty million other white rappers emerge But no matter how many fish in the sea It will be so empty without me
Ahh makes sense now, I though they were talking about premature ejaculation... that didn’t make any sense.
Licenced to Ill And I agree, it did make it accessible to white kids. But PE did that too, so it wasn't strictly a race thing. 3 feet high and rising is another seminal ground breaking album for that genre. I even filled out the questions on that album and sent them back thinking I might win
