How important do we think it is that our LB should be left footed and left winger also be left footed? For me Raylor and Jonas is just a no-no on the left. Call me old fashioned but doesn't a right footed attacking player always have to cut in and put the ball on his stronger foot? Marv is left footed isn't he?

For me it's integral for positions to be filled by natural players

Marveaux, Ben Arfa, Lovenkrands, Krul, Ferguson are the only left footers I can think of at the club and Santon is both footed.

    EDIT: Sammy as well <diva>

Have you ever played football? I'm a lefty and can play a reasonable pass with my right, theres very little excuse for a professional to be at least vaguely both footed. Some are better than others, Santon is one of them.

Not a sentence that's readable, no. Some people are naturally ambidextrous though, some of the best footballers are naturally as good with both feet and plenty of others just train themselves to be nearly as good.

You can't have two right footers on the left wing. Fergie should play LB. <ok>

Just takes practice. I broke my right arm as a kid and learnt to write with my left whilst I was in plaster. Was almost as good with my left by the time the plaster came off. As for feet, I started right footed but played so many games at LB I was almost as good with my left in no time.

I find it hard to understand why so many professional footballers are so reliant upon their primary foot. A bit of practice is all it takes.

The only genuine two-footed player I can think of off the top of my head is Pedro. The rest are one footed who've worked very hard with their weaker foot, James Milner being a good example.

Morten Gamst Pedersen fact for the day:

"Ernst Pedersen, his father as well as a football coach, began to train him to use his left foot rather than his natural right foot in a bid to help him become a professional player, as there is less competition for left-sided roles within the sport. As a result his left foot has become his dominant foot."

Which is also my brothers training plan for my forthcoming first child, which may for all he knows be a girl...

Ribery is two footed as well I think, not sure whether that's naturally so, or by training.

Yeah, I find it pretty damning for a professional player, to not be competent with both feet. They get to practice nearly every day, so there really is no excuse.

Did anyone else see Ginola on Goals On Sunday last season? I was surprised to see he was actually right footed! He said when he was a young player in France, he injured his right ankle and couldn't use it properly for kicking. So, in order to stay in the team, he just used his left foot and eventually became as good, if not better with it. I never noticed that he would take corners with both feet (obviously not at the same time!), until I saw that show.

Also, I'm sure I heard that Morten Gamst Pederson is actually right footed. Apparently his dad made him work on his left, as he knew there were fewer left-footed players, which would give him a better chance of making it as a professional.

I broke my arm when I was 7, but wasn't clever enough to try using my other arm to write. Also, we had just started learning to handwrite at school, and I had this battleaxe of a teacher (Mrs Lundrum - will never forget her!). Obviously, my handwriting wasn't quite as good as the other kids and she made me stay after school to practice writing, with my arm in a cast!!

Though, I do have impeccable handwriting now - when I can be bothered to do it!

Yes, I'm right footed yet the best goal I've ever score was a 30 yard volley with my left foot, if we can play relatively well with both feet no reason why professionals cant.
