I warned this would happen days ago. It was always going to come down to this last desperate push from these people. I hate the people in the media using this as a weapon to mas their true fear, but the reality is that the these people are guilty of some serious things.

Nah - this is posturing from Amnesty.

They know it will go through regardless. They get some publicity and some donations out of it. If they *didn't* write the letter they might get criticised for letting it go unchallenged, but there is zero expectation that it will actually change anything. If they thought it might change anything, they would probably think twice about it.

I agree this is not a letter written to convince anyone (when was the lasttime anyone used "patsy" in business correspondence). It is a letter written to show other people you have written a letter.
