So how is life with just one kidney? I have a friend who has two sisters who were treated with lithium for mental health related issues many years ago, and apparently that drug treatment resulted in damage to kidneys, resulting in one currently requiring dialysis, the other heading in the same direction. Also know someone whose husband recently died after many years of kidney related issues, dialysis, then a kkidney transplant, but the donor was carrying some sort of disease that created other health issues for the recipient, eventually leading to death, so a downhill health spiral over 15 years, passing away at age 74. Anyway I hope my future retirement goes better than the folks desribed above - with my new swimming regime and better eating I'm trying to take steps to improve my own health - use it, or lose it they say......
I have been very fortunate Killy. I lost a kidney (without knowing it) through scarring from stones and the operation to get rid of them rather than through disease. The other one has picked up the slack admirably. I needed to get the blood pressure down a bit to look after the survivor and working in the drugs industry is a great antidote to relying on pills to do the work for you. So have just improved my diet to reduce salt and just eat better, upped the exercise a bit (just brisk walking with dog) never expected to lose so much weight so easily and to keep it off. Still fine on the beer and wine but I don’t do spirits. I’m in better shape than I have been for 35 years and fully expect to live another 250 years, or until QPR win the PL, whichever comes first. Bit fuzzy around the edges today mind. Good luck with the eyes, I’m sure you will be delighted with the instant improvement you will experience.
I drag this thread up every now and again Anyone new on here Any changes for anyone I am no longer 42 /now 50 I no longer drive a lorry /now sit in an office Still live in Wellington Desperately going to need a haircut and a diet after lockdown
Nice one Kiwi.... Shortly to join the ranks of being a pensioner......works not state I hasten to add...…..
Can't afford to retire fully just yet, still have to do some work although I can pick and choose whom I work for, the delights of self employment.....
Retired. And after being without a car or motorbike for the first time since 1974 for 4 days, I bought a tidy old Toyota Corolla Verso today so am no longer having to dread public transport anymore...
Sorry, it take so long to answer, but i was busy until corona...well my brother ( 15 yrs at the time 1971) was a big liverpool-fan at the time...and still he is. So i have to pick one too and it was QPR...
Good points there, SB. I too have blood pressure issues but with a better diet and a bit of exercise, combined with seeing a specialist, really has helped. The kidney specialist told me that most people don’t realise that having long term mid to high blood pressure causes irreversible damage to the kidneys and eyes. l was p!ssing a lot and they said l had to have a diuretic in the blood pressure tablet take the fluid out of the kidneys. It helped dramatically and l’ve now halved my dosage. Now if only l can sort out my other issues.
Very similar pattern, igor60. My brother was exactly the same age as yours, also followed Liverpool and still does. We both also liked QPR but l chose to stick with them. Whenever l get a 50 / 50 situation, l'm 100% chance of getting it wrong ................ ( QPR, wouldn't change it for anything)
