Absolutely and the additional poverty will add to it. But the short term trend is alarming.

That’s why they’ve started planning for what treatments can resume and how we come out the other side of this, the NHS is worried it’ll be seen as going too far in preparing capacity for Covid at the expense of other illness.

Bit of a **** thing to have to be concerned about really as if they hadn’t gone full tilt to get capacity up and the numbers of infected had been higher they’d have been slated for not getting prepared.

Also when I mentioned this the other night people seemed unhappy about getting other treatments going again as they think it puts more people at risk of coronavirus.

**** being a decision maker in the NHS right now!

Whether you care or not is completely irrelevant.
It was a valid question on a discussion forum. Asking questions doesn’t make you ignorant, dismissing them does.

My worry is more about the staff numbers. We can have all the buildings in the world but we need people who can work in them.

At the moment we seem to be doing ok in that respect. I’ve seen some figures this morning, which I won’t share as I don’t believe they’re in the public domain yet, in relation to capacity for various things including intensive care facilities (and it takes into consideration them being staffed) and the numbers are the most positive they’ve been since this started (actually better than it was before this all kicked off).

Social distancing has clearly had a big impact because they had expected this could be a lot worse!

aren’t the numbers being supplemented by the “call to arms” to retired and other workers who left the health service?

when the London one opened they said it required 16000 staff to run it ( i presumed this was at full capacity ) & my immediate thought was "where are they suddenly finding all these staff" particularly as ICU care is a specialist field .

Exactly, I was saying this when everyone kept screaming for ventilators, every ventilator requires trained personnel, which involves sedation. So it's all well and good someone saying, we need 30k ventilators, or we have 30k, the problem being you might not have enough correctly trained front line people available to administer the required help at x location.

Whether I care is my opinion.
It does not invalidate or dismiss your question.

My point is that we are having to ask this question because of the system we have created.

you also need to factor in "burn out" as people can only operate at these levels for so long .

i cannot remember a time when there weren't private care / nursing homes and i would argue this is more about the priorities in the distribution of what PPE is available to the NHS / State and that decision would need to be made even if all care was under the umbrella of the NHS .
